The key in the lock doesn't open the door?

Key could be worn, on my 07 tacoma I have a new key that unlocks the door just fine but the key that I regularly use has worn the edges down over the years. Keep trying with that key because it will open the door...eventually.

If that doesn't work, I don't know any other ways of getting in aside from calling a tow truck that has a driver that has the tools to "break in".

    Best of luck.

Wow, never had a key worn to not function in the doors or ignition. If that's the case, you can try a DIY slim jim (don't break your window) or a tow truck to do it for you.

I'd get a new key, too.

My neighbor had a similar problem on his old 5 series BMW wagon which has the battery under the rear seat. If I recall correctly, He ended up jacking up the car and connecting a battery charger to the hot lead on the starter terminal.

I think im going with the tow truck option tried multiple times with both the main key and spare with no luck thanks for the help. like the idea charging the hot lead but i dont have a charger just be cheaper to pay the tow truck

This is an old thread, however, it was a recent problem for me. My 2011 Tacoma motor went out in the door unlocker a few years ago and I replaced it. Sometime later I noticed the key would not unlock the door but no problem the fob worked. Then the shutdown over the coronavirus the truck did not move for over a month. The doors had locked on their own, does that at times probably I hit the fob with something in my pocket. I wanted to get something out and the battery in the pickup was dead so no door unlocking with the fob. My solution was to reach in under the fender, remove the protective cover over the lug that connects to the cable from the battery. Hook up my little charger and it about a half-hour the door opened no problem. I think the best thing would be to replace the battery and check out where I missed connecting the keylock to the locking mechanism when I replaced the motor.
