What to do to fit tires?

Looking at getting a 3 inch lift. I want to run 33’s what will need to happen so I don’t rub?

I see that you’re new, if your new to forums in general then heed my advice, search before you post. If it’s something very common, like lifting, then chances are it’s been . I usually search on google followed but “Tacomaworld”. I was just messing with you but some guys take it very personally haha. You’ll learn bud.

As others have pointed out, there is a lot of good information available on Tacoma World regarding your question, including detailed information about subjects I have posted below.

If you choose to run tire size 255/85-16, you don't need to do anything. The tire will fit on a vehicle with no modifications. It is a 33" tire.

If you run a 285/75-16 tire, you will need to do some body work. You should do a Cab Mount Chop (CMC). You also may need to hammer down the pinch weld in the wheel wells. If you have mud flaps, the front mud flaps may need to be removed due to rubbing. There may be additional minor trimming as well in and around the wheel wells. New upper control arms would be a good addition along with the lift. This will allow an alignment shop that knows what they are doing to increase your caster better than they can with the stock control arms. Lifted vehicles like a caster setting of around 3.1 or 3.2 and sometimes even more. Find an alignment shop that specializes in lifted off road vehicles. I have seen a couple posts on Tacoma World from people saying they put on 285/75-16 tires with no modifications. The vast majority of people do need to make vehicle modifications to eliminate tire rub.

Sometimes a lift will cause a vibration. It could be in the driveline and/or it could be your CV axle needle bearing. The higher the lift, the more likely that the needle bearing is causing a vibration. While driving on a straight roadway, and when the vibration is occurring, put your truck in 4-High. If the vibration goes away, then the problem is the needle bearing. Yes, you can put your truck in 4-High on a paved roadway. Just do it for a short period of time and don't make any turns, and not over about 60 MPH. A company named East Coast Gear Supply sells a replacement part that will eliminate the needle bearing problem. It's called their Clamshell CV axle bushing. If the vibration is caused in the driveline, it could be because of the new angle of the driveshaft. Shims may need to be installed to correct this problem.

If you plan on off roading you might want to look at installing thinner mud flaps if you end up removing your stock mud flaps. You don't want sand and gravel being tossed up onto the side of your truck.
