I just checked mine. I ended up with a 24f Gold. Im running two amps for audio. I also have a remote start with an add on module for an app on my phone that is basically a parasitic drain on the truck. It seems to keep a good charge. Batteries just aren't made to last like they used to. I assume the app shows the battery voltage in case you need to start the vehicle to charge the battery?

While your picking up a battery be sure to buy 2 new J Hooks. On one side of the battery hold down the hook was about a ¼" to short which made the other side 3" into the air. Also the stock battery terminals are thin so if they are corroded you may break them while clamping them down again. I upgraded recently to Military Battery Terminals and cannot complain about them at all https://www.amazon.com/Fastronix-Mi...jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ== Lastly I put die electric grease on to prevent any future corrosion. FWIW I have a Napa Battery in mine. It was the only store that had a 27f in town.

In a pinch, any similiar size battery with a warranty from any store in town.

I got sick of regular batteries leaking and went with an AGM 34R from Napa a couple months ago. It fit fine where the 27F used to be and only required a slight modification to the holddown.

Thanks for the post about this. My 2014 TACO still had the original battery. Replaced it with an Autocraft Gold 24F 750 CCA battery. Original battery was 582 CCA. Total out the door with them installing it was $123.62 after all discounts!!

Need to take a picture but fits fine on the stock tray, little bit larger than what was in the truck (makes me wonder if the battery replaced during my warranty was a 24).

For the last 20 years I’ve used either Walmart or Costco battery’s on all my vehicles and boats. All lasted 5 plus years except one. That one went bad just before 3 years. Actually it didn’t fail it just wasn’t holding a charge as good as I thought it should. I returned it under warranty and walked out with a new battery, no problem. Any battery no matter how much you pay can fail early and do. Most everyone has a battery failure story and that’s on every battery made. All I’m saying is I’ve had a lot, many may Walmart and Costco batteries over the years and only had a problem with one.
Also I replace my batteries every 5 years. It’s cheap to do that and I don’t have to worry about them failing at some time and place that could be quite inconvenient.

I just want to say I like this @Sprig guys logic/attitude. Totally agree with him on the battery stuff, batteries are mass produced no one brand is perfect, buy a decent battery with a good brand network for if it dies under warranty. Personally I rather like napa legend batteries. I would stay away from the cheapest level batteries though, you know the 80 dollar ones. For normal use in out trucks no need for larger capacity or agm.

I just picked up a 2015 4cyl 4x4 with only 16k on the truck , just went over the whole truck , was thinking about the battery being 5yrs old , I have gotten 8yrs out of a factory battery in another Toyota in warmer climate .
Load tested the battery seems fine going into the warmer weather , I may replace it after the summer .
What is the expected life out of a Tacoma battery ?
This one might last a few more years considering the low miles on this truck .

I used to think I had an idea about battery life - but this truck eats them. My 014 is approaching the end of year 6 and its on number 3. Yes Arizona has high ambient temperature and lots of air conditioner use but geez - it only has 55K miles on the clock. It has the towing alternator and 27F battery - so maybe a little more juice than the standard package.

I replaced mine with another Toyota battery because my original lasted 7 years, I figure you can’t beat that And the price was reasonable from my dealer, ~$140. No complaints.

I like the NAPA Legend batteries. No complaints. I think there’s only a handful of battery manufactures so the branding is mostly just marketing hype. WalMart batteries are perfectly fine.
