2020 TRD Pro AT, 18 City, 22mpg Hwy? Not Even Close...

I noticed a drastic decrease from the 2017 Taco to my 2019 Taco, went from most always 19 - 20 mpg around Boston, to rarely up to 17 mpg consistently in the Boston area. Also, my ‘17 had a factory rigid tonneau, the ‘19 does not, and I have the KB Voodoo rack on now. . .

 

@OP - What speeds are you running in the city? What speeds are you running on the highway? I live in a true city with lots of stop signs. When I'm just driving around here my mileage really starts to tank. Down to about 15-17 (Keep in mind mine's a stick so might not be the same results). Just because you're driving like a grandpa doesn't mean the speeds around your city allow for the trans to sit in a "happy" spot. For example my old Jeep used to get awful mileage doing 45-55 because it just refused to lock the torque converter.

I don't know much about the 2020 trans programming...but maybe that can be a factor? I also agree that the newer truck will get worse mileage until it's got some mileage on it.

 

A lot of people are saying winter gas is a possible cause. You could try throwing in some non ethanol 91 or 92 to see if it makes a difference. The Pure Gas app can help you find a station that carries ethanol free gas in your area.

 

I know this is an old thread but i was wondering what everybody was getting.. my truck is a ‘17 SR DCSB, V6, Rough Country leveling kit, aftermarket rims and bfgoodrich KO2 265/70/17 tires, loaded toolbox, side bars, 34k miles and no engine mods and i average 24 on the highway at 65 mph..

I’m averaging 18 on regular gas. Completely stock v6 4wd.

 

I get 17-18max with 87 octane but I put 91 in it last week since gas is so cheap (and work kinda pays for it) and I’m getting 22-25 on the highway with cruise at 65 and 17-20 with street. I was wondering the same thing the first two months

 

2019 TRD Sport 4x4 DCLB. Mid-Atlantic state. A little over 6k miles on it. Averaging between 19.5-21 MPG combined driving.

 

Getting 17-18 mpgs mixed driving with my manual. Pretty much stock, i removed the air dam and added exhaust. City traffic could be pretty brutal over here. Does great on hwy if going no faster than 65-70, 23-24 mpgs. Im pretty happy with it. My previous truck was worse on gas, was smaller and had less power.

Im on e rated Bfgs though, getting C rated next. Too bad these e rated are wearing like steel, haha!

To update this, I waited until it was warmer to revisit the mileage complaints I had as some suggested.

I'm now getting 18mpg city and 21 highway with grandpa style non-aggressive driving and temps averaging in the 40s-50s most days.

This is on regular grade pump gas, 10% ethanol.

The dash computer claimed 18.8mpg average for the tank so that seems close to accurate too.

So I think many that said their Tacos were really affected by cold weather mileage were pretty spot on now that I've had time to experience it myself.
