IMO, you are better off in the long run trying to replace, rather than repair a rusty frame with plates. Most shops will likely refuse to do the work, too.

These things rust from the INSIDE out, and it's especially bad where the frame is boxed and you can't get to it. Adding frame plates makes it stronger, but it doesn't stop or prevent the rust from continuing to eat away at the frame.

you know what rust looks like, right? It's like that, but on the inside of the frame... ;)

But seriously, a scope would help you determine IF your frame is rusty on the inside, but like I said, it's really hard to get in there to do anything about it. You can't just paint over the rusty spots, you have to grind away the rust down to pristine metal, then paint/coat it to prevent it from happening more.

I am investigating what the Krown spray (from Canada) does to eat and dissolve it, spray it all up and inside and give it a go
intending on getting some inside hi-res shots (video possibly) for evalution for anyone interested

My experience with naval jelly is that you still need to do some scrubbing.

The other possibility would be to cut the frame open to do your rust repairs, then close it back up and reinforce with the plates.

Doing that much cutting and welding on a frame and you have to be careful with keeping the frame from warping.

Just have iron man build a new frame for you. Hulk smash the old one. Then go out for a drink with Blackwidow.

OP, I got my frame replaced by toyota recall and never had my frame sprayed, it does not matter is what the toyota service guy said to me, you just need to get higher in the chain of command of people to talk too, call other dealers, call toyota corporate. If for whatever reason they say no try other dealers.

You should check the location history of the vehicle. If it lived outside the rust states, it would not have been notified about coating. Toyota may be able to tell you its history.

My 2003 Tacoma developed frame rust at 15 years 8 months. Never got a frame recall rust notice, I used CORROSEAL, bought a gallon on Amazon. I treated exposed rust and topped with rustoleum semi gloss black 1 qt. I sprayed the inside of box frames with CORROSEAL using TCP global Rust proofing undercoatung gun with gauge, wand & cup bought on Amazon $29.95 I shot about a quart inside LEFT side box frame and it ran out of bottom drains. It did cure EVENTUALLY. After I was sure the Corroseal set I sprayed a half can Fluid Film inside LEFT side box frame with their 360 wand. The worst side rail RIGHT side by Catalytic converter with holes through both sides. I did not treat inside right box frame as I will be pulling the BED and welding SAFE-T-CAP Center frame section TAC-158x/D4-r $129.95 and then treating inside with Coroseal and Fluid film. ONE TIP- both spray wands will need to be STRAIGHTENED after warming in HOT sun then overnight in freezer as the poly tubes have shape memory.

It would appear that we have discussed this before!
But now this topic is in Kentucky, which I came very close to a week ago
