Bummer, I bought the spanner wrench. thing is way overpriced. Was hoping to not have to get a spring compressor or take it somewhere other than the alignment shop, but we'll see. Thanks

 

You won't have to remove those to adjust. Just make sure that the Allen set screw is facing outward when you install them and you can just jack up the truck and loosen the set screw slightly( just barely,too much and you will have issues) and adjust the collar to adjust. Mine are the stock 600# so maybe a lil less than me because you got the heavier springs which was smart in my eyes. Make sure to take prior measurements to compare your new height to and I would say set it about 1.25 to 1.5 down the collar and then install them and see where that gets you. If I had to guess it would be around 2.25 to 2.5 inches of lift with that.. but either way these shocks rock for adjusting so if you don't like it or its not right just jack er up and loosen that set screw and crank the collar again. how high of a lift are you going for front and rear? are you looking for level look front and rear? I'm excited for you because it's such a great investment your going to love the ride

 

Haha yea, quite the investment thats for sure. Im just looking for 2 to 2.5 inches. Ill see how much lift I get when the shocks are at the recomended 21". And hoping for a little bit of rake. I went with Fox Tundra 2.5 shocks for the rear, paired with Icon RXT leafsprings.

 

Gotta love this site for that..see the pics and say . All the mods make the truck all that much better. 21" is while installed if I'm not mistaken because it will show you how the shock is with the weight of the truck on them bad boys. Since you got the 2.5 in the rear what are your plans for the resi out of curiosity. Im ready to see some pics of this beast all finished up....just looked back and was wondering if you picked yourself up some new upper control arms as well? If so what ones did you go with?

 

Yea, ill be sure to post some pics up after. Havent thought about the rear resivoirs much yet, but hoping they come with some kind of mounting instructions.
I decided to go with the SPC UCAs for the adjustment features. Considered total chaos or icons delta joint. But taco twonz and the guys at Filthy motorsports seemed to really like the SPCs.

 

You can certainly ask others what they have for preload to get a 2.5" lift, but at the end of the day they do not have your truck. When we do installs here in the shop, we install the coilovers as is, see where the shock lengths sit, then make adjustments from there. This is the best way to set preload for your specific truck. Making guesses based on what others have done can lead to more adjustments than you originally wanted, and potentially have you scarring up the preload nuts from all the adjustments. Yes, we highly recommend a proper spring compressor, but yes people have done it without one. It's up to you and your mechanical skills.

I went with the SPC for that exact reason. All of the other options did not offer as much adjustability and have heard some mixed reviews but with SPC I can personally say they are great. They offer both camber and caster adjustments and the instructions are great.That upper control arm bolt is a bit of a b word if you dont want to bend your inner fender to remove it,which im not a fan of so i opted to cut my old bolt and replace it from the opposite direction with loctite and a thread punch to make sure it never backs out(doubt it would but better safe than sorry). As @AccuTune Offroad stated I was only giving you my results on my truck and a base line starting point to try. When you adjust the coils I would get a 5/16 punch (I went to auto value and bought a whole set that had the right size for like maybe 15 bucks)and it fits perfectly and won't wollow out or damage the holes(where as I hear the spanner wrench is about useless). Mine went pretty easy as I did them while new and didn't do any mudding or anything prior to adjusting.

 

@AccuTune Offroad I noticed you have superbumps with the ubolt flip kit in the picture and had a couple questions. The bolts seem a little long from the angle of the picture it looks like under heavy/hard hitting compression they could hit. Do they not compress enough for contact or is it just the angle? What made you choose superbumps over other companies like timbren or durobumps out of curiosity. The other question is does the resi hose have any issues with the frame bump stop mount contacting it and over time rubbing through? Also you guys are awesome for being so ready and helpful to all of us here on tacomaworld(nothing but useful info and guidance with pics)so props to you for sure keep kicking ass

 

You are 100% correct, this photo was taken prior to final torque and trimming the u-bolts. We always trim those down so they do not hit under full bump. Shoot us a DM if you have specific questions, so we dont get super off topic in this thread. Bump stops come with Archives kit, work well. No on shock hose rubbing. The shock doesn't rotate very much.

I researched for months. (Ome, bilstein, ...) read through countless forums. If youre going to spend the money, youve got to have your shocks valved correctly for your application. These guys also have the best customer service out there. They answer evertime I call with a stupid question. Lol

 

If you are really concerned about adjusting the preload ring you can use a spring compressor like this without removing the coilover. Attach them with the truck on the ground, then jack it up and the spring is already compressed. Personally though, I have had no issues with adjusting under a loaded spring. Just get the tire in the air. And like others have said no spanner wrench, use a 5/16 punch.

Grab a punch, lift the truck up, drown the threads in lube and you'll be OK.

 

After marring my brand new shocks with a cheap spring compressor I order the SPC compressor listed above, I also order the Fox wrench for my shocks

 

This is very confusing and I am not sure what to think of it

 

Anyone have Factory 2.5 w/ res front (0-3") and Performance 2.0 w/ res (0-1.5") in the rear or similar? I'm thinking of getting that without AAL for an around 2/1 lift. Thoughts on performance and look? Recommendations of getting the AAL or not? I haul hefty loads in the bed, occasional trailer, but only a couple times a month half the year. For now the full stock has been doing fine hauling as is.

 

@lukeoct8 The shocks themselves will not give you lift in the rear. You will have to either add a block or add a leaf or new leaf pack to achieve rear lift. Based on you saying that you tow and haul things I would go that route. Looks I would say I'm biased bc I have a fox setup and besides it being beautiful it rides like a dream. Wow, 123 pages. So I made it through the first 10 pages but way to much reading so I will ask some questions. Have a '19 TRD Pro and with cali raised sliders, diamondback bed cover, and prinsu roof rack. Just got some 17" SR8 -10 offset wheels with 275/70/70 Falken Wildpeaks. Well after some cutting, trimming, heating liners, and also probably needing a cmc before taking offroad. I am now looking at upgrading the suspension.....yes yes yes....changing a Pros suspension (If I did it all over, I would have gotten an OR and put the money into suspension, but live and learn). Also will probably do a cbi front bumper later.

Love the ride and smoothness of the stock Pro suspension. Doesn't feel like a truck in my opinion. I do a little off roading from time to time, but nothing major as there isnt a lot around me here in DFW.

So my question is this.
1. What is equivalent to how the pro feels now (I do not want to downgrade) but would give me a little more lift?
2. What is the difference between the Fox Level 3 and 4 kits on Headstrong Off-Road?
3. Do I need to do a diff drop with these as well?

Or anymore words of wisdom.

 

If you don't want to downgrade the TRD Pro suspension, then I would suggest sticking to a Fox Suspension System. Fox 2.5 w/DSC would be a nice upgrade from what you have now. The shocks can be tuned to ride how you want, and the DSC adjusters will allow you to fine tune it even more. If you're only looking for slightly more lift than you have now (stock TRD Pro comes with 1" lift), maybe just stick to an add-a-leaf in the rear.
