Had my oil changed at the dealership 2 weeks ago put on about 800 miles since. They have done all my oil changes. I see this tab at the 3 o’clock position in the photo and don’t know what it’s purpose is. The skid plate is covered in motor oil as well as the oil filter housing. The oil filter housing appears to be tight not sure if I have a leak or they were just sloppy. Anyone with photos I can compare?

The housing looks ok from what I can see. But it wouldn't hurt to check the drain cap. Doesn’t need to be crazy tight, just snug. There's also an oil ring under it. Maybe it's missing or tweaked

That's not alot of oil. Clean it and do what @Plain Jane Taco reccomended then keep an eye on it.

The tab at 3 o'clock looks like the oil filter retaining clip. It's really an extra measure of protection to prevent the filter from loosening.

That clip doesn't engage on anything.

It looks like they didn't change the filter and just drained the oil out of it.

Sloppy, my taco has the spin on filter above the transmission lines and I took a look underneath and saw a new filter but oil residue all over the transmission lines. Nothing brake clean and a shop rag can’t fix but that’s just sloppy.

From the pic, it looks like the filter drain cap is leaking. Make sure the O-ring is on correctly and torque it to 10 lb-ft.

    1. Possible oil got on skid plate while plate was off truck.
    2. Peace of mind with doing it yourself.
    3. Tighten the outer housing with hand and stick a socket extension in the metal plug and tighten them. Do not over tighten.
    4. Inspect higher up for signs of a leak above just in case.

Good luck and let us know what ya find.

Fyi there are 2 rings to check OP. The bigger one will entail you basically re-doing the oil change.

take the skid plate off and, wipe clean with brake spray cleaner then drive the truck with skid plate off and check daily. put a piece of cardboard under when parking for the night. if oil reappears then take back to dealer. take pic's during the above to show dealer. my 2 cents.

Most oil changes done at the stelership are done by kids...lowered payed than the actual mechanics...most times nobody checks their work, specially when skid plate covers it ...I have yet to take any of my vehicles to the stealership for oil changes...yes, even when they're free...no thanks

Good chance the plastic oil filter housing is cracked. They already broke the retaining clip.

Learn to do it yourself, it's simple and rewarding. Torque specs and tips are in the DIY maintenance sticky.

Clean the filter area up as good as possible. Don't reinstall the skid plate. Start truck and see where it is leaking. Then you will know what needs to be fixed.

Center console divider thingy, rubber bed mat and side steps for the wife.
Is it just me, or does that "new" oil look pretty dirty already?
