Ya I’ve never used that type. I use the barrel style and mine isn’t double walled (yet - I want to build one). Sounds like they are completely different beasts. :)

I ran my Pitboss 800 Pro Series overnight at 225*. Filled the hopper about an hour after turning on and 12 hrs later it was still half full.

Thanks for the response. I've read several reviews of this 7 series and the Pitboss version (same item, different colors/name - as far as I can tell). The issue I keep seeing is people getting error messages regarding the hopper jamming. Sounds like a cheap pellet issue. I run Cookin' Pellets which seem to be pretty low dust so hopefully won't cause a problem.
Any issue with yours? It's really the only thing keeping me from pulling the trigger on this over the Rectec even with the $200 off the Rectec.

Love it. I had smaller propane and electric ones before that and its nice not to have to cut a rack of ribs in half to fit them in the smoker. Cleanup is a little more since it has a glass front. I usually just cook for two but my wife likes to take some of what I smoke to work and share.

I have never felt it was too large. Some of my cooks on it.

I run the Pit Boss brand pellets in mine.. and mind you it hold 60# at a time so you won't have to fill it very often.. but they are the cheapest.. 40# bag at Walmart for $15... And I haven't had an issue with them at all.
When I first bought mine I had an issue with the internal temp probe and after Customer Service replaced it... I have had zero issues.

I keep mine in my garage when not in use and don't open a bag of pellets until I can dump the whole bag I'm the hopper.

I have other pellets that I use in a tube smoker for cold smoking but I keep those in 5 gallon buckets with gamma lids to keep the moisture out.

I had the error one time after I had dumped a bag of pellets in an empty hopper. The pellets landed just right and created a dome so they didnt go into the tunnel. I used a 3 foot metal rod to stir them up and go into the tunnel and haven't had it happen since.

The smoker also comes with a cover and once I left it uncovered in the pouring rain. Water got into the feed screw and got the pellets wet. A week later I started it up and the feeder was jammed. It only took a few minutes to pull it apart and clean it out. I always cover it after I use it now.

Thanks for the feedback folks. I think I'll give the Louisiana vertical smoker a chance. Worst case, I return it to Costco and get the Rectec around Father's Day. I'm sure they'll give me some time to decide if I want another Rectec.

Hey guys. I will be in the market for a new grill. I’m either looking for a Traeger or a Green egg. My sister has the green egg in that thing is awesome. I’ve cooked meat to pizza on it and love the results. I’ve seen a lot of people with Traegers now. I have never used or ate food off of one. Has anyone used both for comparisons. Pros and cons? Traegers electric vs GReen egg analog?

I went from an Akorn (egg style) to a Green Mountain Grill pellet grill. Ease of use and increased capacity of the GMG has me using it way more than the Akorn. I think the only time I have used the Akorn in the last 6 months was to make pizza.

I like the 26" kettle so much for smoking tonight decided to roll the WSM out of the way. The kettle is more efficient and as easy to use if not more so. Can still roll the WSM out to use if I have to easy enough.

    kettles and gassers.jpg

Put the rotisserie ring on the 22" kettle and set the Jumbo Joe inside of it. Can use lifted grate setup for steaks on the 22" but the JJ is faster and uses less charcoal.

    steak sear.jpg

No need for the pellet smoker right now. Or the gasser, it almost hit 60 here today going to go with winter is over, but I hate to poke that sleeping bear.

hot damn. Sausage is one of my favorites to do in the smoker. If I have anything planned I almost always end up with at least 5 as filler since I’m running it anyway. So good

Might end up with some ribs to smoke this weekend. I have two packs of spicy italian sausage. Went to the grocery store and had a Modern Family alpaca moment - haven't seen these in weeks! So I got 10 (2 packs of 5). Need to add something else to smoke alongside them, I'm thinking ribs.
