Trying to make up my mind between General Grabber X3 load C, Cooper ST MAXX load E, and TOYO AT2 load C. I like the look of the ST MAXX the most, but not sure of the Load E ride, even with the PSI lowered to 30's. I don't do a lot of off-road, but damn the ST MAXX look good. I had them on a few F250's and F350's, they were excellent. Tacomas are lighter, so maybe a C load is better. The X3 has a nice look too, just wondering how loud they are on the road.

These will be in size 265/75/16, same size as the Firestone P265's I have now. I know about the loss in MPG's, I just want a happy medium in looks vs. ride.

Thanks for any long term experiences!

Well, I thought about it for little over a year now and I have to say: go with the Grabbers.

I have had KO2'S, ST Maxx, and now the Dick Cepek EXP all in E load.
The KO2'S were ok, but really sucked in anything that even looked like mud and the wet weather traction really got bad after about 25k. They were very abrupt and rough riding (34F/30R psi).

The St Maxx probably has one of the best tread designs on the market, low noise, great off-road traction, good wet weather performance. They still ride pretty stiff, but not as bad as the KO2'S. They are heavy and I could really feel it in the overall performance of my truck. If I did hard core off-road trails they would have stayed on my truck.

The Dick Cepek EXP has a tread design that's close to the ST Maxx and the overall performance is very similar but without the weight penalty. I was surprised at how much better my truck performed when dropping 6lbs of rotational mass from each wheel. The sidewall is really stout for a two ply tire and is plenty for my type of use.
The EXP is quiet and rides so much better than the KO2'S or the ST Maxx.
    Done!

I just got the ST Maxx. Much better on road so far than my Duratracs. Had I stuck with 16s I planned on going with the DC EXP, but I got a good deal on this setup. Happy so far. The AT2 is kinda in a different class and usually look pretty sad in these smaller sizes.

I was looking at the ST Maxx in 315/70r17. But they're practically a MT. I figured I might as well go with the KM3. I hear they flex great. and they're on road performance is pretty darn good.

If you are willing to go to a MT tire. I would look into the Cooper STT Pro's. Thier on road performance is equal to the KM3 except that the STT Pro's are a lot better than the KM3 in wet conditions due to the silica tread compound.

Do you like the STT pros better than the general grabber X3?

Ive been running Cooper ST Maxx PRO C's on my truck for three years now. Initially I loved them, although they did slow my truck down and dropped me to 13 MPG. After a few years it seems like the rubber has gotten harder and the road noise has picked up substantially. I recently took them off my truck and they are sitting on rims in my garage and I am moving on just because I am tired of the road noise.

I just noticed your looking at a different tire. I'm running the mud tires not the a/t.

Well since he’s asking about 265/75/16s that’s not really relevant.

Also a pretty bold claim considering they are virtually unproven.

Right show, wrong guy. The Duke boys ran Kenda Klever 35s - fact!
And now that we know the facts maybe it's time to change our tire size.

255/75-17 Grabber X3s. Just got them on and really like them. Stock ride height for now. Absolutely no issues with rubbing or anything.

I've got 25k miles on Toyo At II's load E and they've been good tires so far. They're not very aggressive looking but they perform very well so far. That said, I'm probably going to switch to Cooper ST Maxx in 255/85/16 next time around, mostly because there are almost no options in that size and not sure I wanna go to 285 width. I'm hoping I don't get the pull a lot of people claim they have with the coopers.

Those look great. I decided to move away from 35s and I'm going with the 255/85/16r St Maxx

Thanks man! Yeah really liking the look. These replaced the OEM tires. I work for Continental and got a very good deal on them. The taller skinner tires feel more nimble and responsive and the truck definitely feels a tad bit taller. Grabber X3s.jpg
