On my 2000 I used a 1" pipe on one side and it did pretty good. On the 2nd one I used a 1" spade drill(for wood) and it worked a little better because it didnt leave any melted plastic. In full disclosure, I've been a machinist for 26 years and have drilled many, many holes. If your good with a drill, then IMO the drill is a little better. The drill did leave the hole a little undersized and I ended up using the pipe on the hole I drilled to open it up a little. The hole needs to be at least 1.025". I used a dremel for the slots. I also had to grind down the outside of the connector so it wouldn't hit the light housing.

I used a vacuum in one hole while blowing air through the other worked awesome to get all the plastic particles out of the housing.

The bulb is pretty close to the lense. Are folks having any issues with incandescent bulbs(if I dont do led)?

I never had issues with the halogen bulbs. LEDs won't be either. it's a tight fit for sure. More so on the later years than the earlier ones. On the later years the method of cutting a hole and then cutting the mount off the blinker and expoying it on is a bit better due to that.

Ok, thanks. The later would set the bulb further away from the lense but I do like the method I did.... I can still do the cut and epoxy if I want to to recess the bulb.

I decided to cut and epoxy in order to recess the bulbs a little more. Yes, I have issues. :)20200502_093346.jpg

What blinker bulbs should I get when I'm doing the blinker mod. I am getting clear corners and want to get the amber bulbs.

Why is it brighter? Because of a different bulb or just because of the different housing.

Just got get amber bulbs of the same kind that your blinkers have. I can't remember off the top of my head but my 95-97 have 1156 bulbs. Your 98 might be different.

Sort of. I cut new holes for the blinker bulbs. The standard corner light bulb is also in there.

It's a big ass bulb in a small housing. So it's just noticable and because it's not flashing all the light forward but more to the side you notice more as to other drivers.

Thanks for the writeup @Blackdawg, it works great, add me to the list of members running it.

I've got LEDs in my sidemarkers, might have to switch them back to incandescents since they kind of drown out the blinkers, but that's a later problem.
