Oh god man. I'm sorry that happened to you. I'm glad that you guys turned out alright though. Including the girlfriend. Some of these collisions are no joke.

I really don't want to sound like a grumpy old man, but in what world did it seem like a good idea to drive a brand new vehicle with only liability insurance.

I do see what you mean about uninsured people driving.... They Suck!

Grumpy? I was wondering what the punishment should be for not carrying uninsured motorist coverage. A true Grumpy Old Man might point out evidently the girlfriend didn't have insurance either.

Your guess is wrong. Yes I have been. My feelings are irrelevant when it comes to justice though and so are yours. A year in jail, loss of voting rights, loss of second amendment rights and a lifetime of crappy jobs due to felon stigma for not having insurance is retarded. The DUI carries enough penalties but the constitution guarantees a punishment should fit the crime and not carrying a bond from a private corporation does not even come in the same universe as loss of your freedom and civil rights. I would support a 5 year ban from driving and even a lifetime ban if you injured someone while uninsured but a felony conviction is unconstitutional and excessive.

and it seems Nevada agrees with me. A search of Nevada insurance laws show no criminal penalties, just fines and suspensions. It’s impossible to have no criminal penalties with a felony. Whoever told you it was a felony sold you a bill of goods.

Very much sucks. I hate uninsured drivers, they are definitely on the shit-tier of society.

The only thing I can offer is to always assume that people next to you will do exactly the wrong thing. Every intersection. I gotta look left, right, and ahead and watch for any sign that some head-up-they-ass-genius is going to deviate from the plan, because someone almost always does. If they look even remotely squirrely I get on the brakes and let them do their dumbass thing. I might be in the right, but its still my metal thats at risk.

Its like a highschool dance. Most people are looking down in a slow awkward shuffle to avoid stepping on toes, but there's always that one nutcase who suddenly starts windmilling like there's no tomorrow. Don't dance next to that kid.

Good to see it getting patched up, it shall ride again soon.
