You need to reverse the wiring at the lights - not the switch - if you have the polarity wrong. Besides, it's a whole lot easier to do.

I just meant that if when I click the button, that they don't come on. I don't immediately know that it's the polarity of the bulbs that's backwards. I've been seeming to hit a snag on every level of every project involving my truck, so I'm just trying to eliminate any possible sources of error.

ok, so next snag, wiring the switch. I picked up a switch from AOB and the diagram they included is confounding me. I would assume on an 18, that I'm switched negatively and should use the bottom layout. That said, black is chassis ground. Does green go to ECU 26, and which is green/beige illumination?

Looks like green goes to your relay and blue is your illumination. Either splice into a green/beige wire from an OEM switch or tap in to the parking light fuse.

Also, spots 85 and 86 are interchangeable so polarity there really doesn't matter. Theoretically though, 85 should be your ground.

I'm following Nitori's method, so then green runs to the ECU pin 26, so then red and blue would be illumination no? If so, which is which? I know electronics in these things isn't generally forgiving to a polarity swap.

Oops, I assumed you were just wiring to a standard relay.

It looks like the blue wire is gonna be your illumination +, or blue wire connecting to green. Going off of Nitori's thread, that would leave the red to be illumination -, or red to tan. However, you're assuming that the AOB switch works in the same way as the OEM one. If you wire it this way, with the switch in the closed position, you'll be completing the circuit between illumination - and the ECU, and I can't say for sure at the moment if that's Nitori's intent...

Nice looking truck! (Then again, I'm partial to white Tacomas.) Was the improved lighting worth the wait?

While some have come to expect a sharp cut off from many replacement SAE Fog Lights, this is an outdated notion. As the decades have progressed, so have the SAE regulations. Just like our dedicated line of off-road lighting solutions. Baja Designs is focused on next generation SAE lighting, by designing to the SAE standard while remaining within compliance.

The smoothness of our lights is the result of ensuring the proper intensity in each field. Over-saturation of light in any particular lighting zone can be just as much of a hindrance as under-saturation. The unnecessary intensity can wash out and distort terrain, sometimes exaggerating the appearance of bumps and holes. When you have a fog lamp that is over-saturating the near field, your eyes will adjust to the increased intensity, causing you to lose your headlights as your distance light. If this is the case your fog lights have now become your driving lights, which is not their intended purpose. Our two-piece optic design avoids this flaw of the human eye, instead blending light to create an optimal pattern for on-road driving.

The increased upward spill light in the Squadron SAE is designed to eliminate harsh cutoffs without causing unwanted glare to the driver. The presence of a cutoff draws our eyes in, losing the ability to focus on what lies beyond. Without the cutoff, the human eye is better able to focus on signs, wildlife, and other objects off in the distance due to the gradual and natural illumination created by the blend. Just as the human mind subconsciously keeps drivers between lanes on the road, a harsh cutoff line becomes something that the brain will inherently concentrate on.

Further, from the perspective of an oncoming driver or pedestrian, the lack of upward spill can have a dangerous effect on depth perception. It is difficult to gauge the speed and distance of an oncoming vehicle without having the proper amount of upward spill. With the proper amount of upward spill, the relative distance and speed of approaching vehicles is much easier for the eye to process. In addition to the limitations in perception created by a drastic cutoff, oncoming drivers will also be subject to dangerous flashes of light that occur when the cutoff bounces and the vehicles passes over bumps. This dangerous effect causes a person to immediately close or avert their eyes. Having upward spill light creates a more gradual exposure to the main part of the beam and reduces the “flash effect” creating a safer driving experience for both vehicles.

Although Crashnburn80’s tests have claimed that our peak intensity has been reduced, this is because our SAE light is dispersed over a large parameter compared to our competitors. While they focus on having a brighter intensity in a smaller location, we’ve designed our optics to have a better overall spread with a natural transition. This is why his lab tests came back with low results. Baja Designs is proud to say our roots come from off-roading racing in Baja California. We’ve had years of experience in finding the best solution for each lighting need, in the harshest terrains. We respect Crashnburn80’s initiative to test our product among our competitors in a lab setting, but we strongly encourage the consumer to experience our SAE light behind the wheel. The Squadron SAE was designed from an enthusiast perspective and tested in the real world. As we’ve encountered before in our “Knock off the Lies” campaign, statistics and numbers are not always the deciding factors. The Squadron SAE is an industry first and features select characteristics. This includes our 5000k color temperature, ClearView optics, tall spread, and smooth cutoff. Here is an analysis that differs us from our competition.

Not going to lie it was pretty difficult to get beyond that first paragraph about “outdated notions”, when discussing a patch job to previous SAE lights. Sorry BD, going to have to do a lot better than a press release on a truck forum to win back my trust.

I think I’m going to bite the bullet on a pair of S33 pros for my pickup and a pair of sports for the ladies subie. When’s the best time to buy?

Too little and way too late. Your lights aren't safe so you had to make a fix. Not only is it a joke, it's a real piss poor fix. All of us here who care about the other drivers on the road know not to use your SAE lights. And for the price who wants a poorly designed optic with a shield?

And previously advertising your wide cornering lights as street friendly has made me realize you just care about money and NOT safety. Rigid and DD all day long.

It appears that the lens they offer are the sport ones and not the Pros, is the clear lens you tested on the yellow light more like the sport with the tighter light filtering lens?

The lens is the same for both the Sport and Pro. The only difference between the two is the LED emitter. The sport will have a sharper cutoff regardless of lens color when compared to the pros
