Hey everyone this is my first post here and I’m looking for some guidance. I bought a 2010 TRD Off-Road Tacoma in January this year. Only had 37k miles and very clean body. The frame looks pretty good to with just some surface rust here and there. I’m guessing it was garage kept due to the condition. I live in PA so I was shocked that the frame looked so good.

Today I took it in to the dealership for the leaf spring warranty and too have the frame inspected. I was told I have until June 2022 for the frame warranty. They checked the frame, no holes and just said some surface rust.

My question is should I be worried about the frame rotting out shortly after the warranty ends? The truck is in such great shape and I plan on keeping it for a long time just would hate for that to happen.

    Welcome to TW!

If the frame is in good condition now, no reason for it rust out (i.e. develop holes) in just two years. Get the frame sprayed with Fluid Film/Krown/Cosmoline before each winter to slow down rust progression. No magic here. Direct your attention to other things that can go wrong with 2nd gens with the passage of time, regardless of miles:

Steering rack leak (seepage near the tie rod bellows)
Timing cover leak (near the power steering pump)
    Rotted out radiator support bushings
Worn out wheel bearings - grease will degrade even with low miles
    Coolant leak near the firewall
A/C leak at the high-pressure line going to the condenser

Good lookin’ truck. Welcome to TW. The frame warranty extension is 12 years from date of 1st use. (The date it was sold new to the original owner) Find out when that date is. That’s important. If the frame rusts out and you go to the dealer 1 day after the 12 year mark, you’re SOL.

The frames do a lot of rusting from the inside. Do your research and be diligent about rust prevention. I am fortunate that my parents moved out of Wisconsin before I was born. They moved specifically to get away from the snow and subsequent rust.

You could look in POR-15 or FluidFilm treatment for the frame.
I’m not sure how often the coating needs to be reapplied, as I’m luck to live in the South Eastern U.S.
I’ve seen many good reviews on both. I personally have only used FluidFilm on my lawn equipment.
I have not had any problems it yet.
