I don’t ride with music. Just like to hear when people are coming. Sometimes people shout ahead while climbing a trail and it’s good to be able to hear them. Hubs and the sound of the bike bouncing around are usually loud enough for people to hear me coming, unless they have earphones on, then they’re startled with me passing by “out of nowhere”.

The elusive alternative you seek is silence. It’s golden.

Just because people are being respectful and tolerant of your choice to grace them with your tunes, doesn’t mean they are cool with it. I don’t chastise any of the rolling concerts I encounter. But my silence is not at all an indication of my approval.

Not trying to be an ass to you or others, just offering the other side of the fence perspective. My choice to enter the woods is most always to seek refuge from the mainstream. I’m less than pumped when forced to mix them.

Hello. I have this bike sitting around and figure I would share here and possibly even sell it to someone who can put it to better use. What would a bike like this be worth if it’s even worth something.

Silence is nice, but I get bored climbing when I am by myself. I listen to music on the climbs through one ear headphone, then remove it for the descents.

Its not worthless, however, the buyer for a bike like that will likely not be someone who wants to put any $ into it just to get it trail worthy and you, or someone, would probably have to put $50-ish into it just in parts (assuming it does not need tires). If it was in good shape you could probably get $100 or so, maybe more. kinda hard to know really. When it was new it was probably somewhere around $500 I would guess, so you could use that to gauge a used price I suppose. There may be others for sale that you could see what they sold for, too.

I would clean it up; get rid of the visible rust. Replace the chain and tubes as long as the tires look good. List it on Craigslist, could probably get a few bucks for it, maybe 75-100 if everything works good

So how did you all progress with jumping? Like what did you do to start and how did you get more comfortable and get better?

I am getting really comfortable going off drops and quickly hitting some downhills (quick for me) but other than 2 wheels off the ground on a couple foot drop the concept of “jumping” 2 wheels off the ground is new and unnerving. This is my first attempt at any jump at all, and I know it’s nothing impressive but both wheels were in the air, and I felt like my form was pretty good...the pump, the takeoff, the flat landing and body position. I was just going slower so not much distance.

I’m sure you all do way crazier jumping but I am proud of this because it did take some courage to even be willing to do this. So I’m just trying to understand what y’all would do to “progress”? Because I don’t feel like the next step is just hit it faster....or is it...

Couldn't agree with @backcountryj more and I don't me to be an ass either. Lots of thoughts run through my head when I hear someone listening to music on a speaker hiking/biking/skiing and none of them are pleasant. It usually goes like this "How gracious of you share your playlist with everyone in the park, we really like your music!" or "Do they know headphones/ear buds are cheaper and sound better in your ears?" I'm only 36 so I know old people have way less mellow thoughts than I do. It kinda goes back to being a good steward of the sport and being mindful of all trail users. Just because we can doesn't mean we should.

I’m an old curmudgeon but I absolutely HATE hearing other people’s music. Even in my car at a traffic light, through an open window, but especially on a trail deep in the woods or desert. Of course, I don’t wear earbuds except occasionally when running in town. I gotta hear my bike, or the wind, or the birds, or the guy coming up behind me.

Next step is learning how to do bunny hops! You could easily gain a few feet of air off of that bump in the trail. You should also practice doing progressively larger drop offs. Tons of good tutorials out there. Gmbn put out some of the better ones.

So I can do bunny hops just like in the grass. I need to work on my balance some though. There was one guy that probably cleared 7-8ft or so on that jump and did a hip transfer type landing to the left. It was impressive. I just don’t have the nerves to hit it fast enough yet. Sadly we don’t have many “jumps” and nothing to really progress on. Hence why I want to go to another place haha. I’ve done some 2-3 ft drop offs on the technical downhills though.

Fair enough. Aaaaaaaaand, in the interest of keeping negativity to a minimum I've deleted that post.

Anyone ever order from chainreaction? Think they are the exclusive dealer for a bike I wanted for my daughter(vitus nucleus 24). They seem to have screwed me pretty good. 7-10 day shipping, didnt get to dhl until day 11, and now dhl has lost my package somewhere in new england. I'm afraid to look for refund, seems like they handle those even worse than their orders. And customer support isnt even a thing with them. Not impressed, should have stuck with lbs but kids bike options are crummy unless I want to drop thousands on a trailcraft

I know this is probably the last thing you want to hear, but it might still show. My buddy ordered a Vitus and had similar issues. Shit just hung up during customs induction for several days with no info/update. He was more patient with it than I would've been, but we were both on a three week work trip, so he wasn't going to ride it anyway. Sure enough, after zero updates from DHL on the status, his wife texted that the bike was at his place. Have you already opened up communications with Chain Reaction about the issue?

Have tried to. But no response in a few days. Tried on facebook too. Then I looked into their reviews and am now concerned. Dont get me wrong, I want to give them the benefit of doubt but 11 days to get an in stock item out the door is shitty. They brag about their speed getting items out the door.

Everything is slow right now dude. I ordered a pedal wrench from worldwide cyclery and it took almost a week and a half for it to ship. Not sure if you heard but there’s a global pandemic going on.

Yeah I get that. But what about the Rona slows them from taking an item and attaching shipping label? Didnt slow them from taking my money, they post 15 times a day on facebook...

I work in a dealership doing service, would you be ok with 4 days to do an oil change? No because we are open and working, corona is a terrible excuse to ignore orders and customer service if you are open imo
