I've had enough of the windshield TSS camera/housing blocking my view. Thinking of removing it.

I already replaced the stock mirror with an old-school $15 8" mirror to improve the front view, and I don't care I have to flip it instead of getting auto dim.

I like the auto-dim headlights and lane-alert, which the windshield TSS controls, but I'd prefer the unobstructed front view.

    Do I lose anything else?

Will the truck blow up if I remove it?

Will it register some kind of error and constantly beep or something?

Has anyone done it? I can find an exploded view of the parts, but I can't find a proper set of service manual instructions for removing (and reinstalling if I regret it). Don't want to mess around uninformed even with the housing for something that expensive. I'm under the impression it's very sensitive to being in the absolute correct position.

    Thanks for any help

You will always get error codes on your dash that the TSS system has a malfunction if it's removed... IF you can even remove it. I'm surprised you aren't used to it by now though, I don't even notice it anymore.

    Thanks for the info.

Opposite for me. I didn't notice the mirror and housing for a few months. Then one day I did, and that was it. Not a huge deal, but was hoping it was doable.

Dont wanna sound like a dick here but, i dont understand the complaint with the rear view mirror. Not once i though that mirror blocks my view.

Like others have stated, if you fuck around with that sensor, you will have error messages on your dash, no adaptive cruise, automatic braking and useless lane assist.

Probably cheaper to trade it in for a 17.

insurance rates are based on some of the stuff that camera brings. If you get in an accident after messing with it your provider could really make life hard.

Man, you must be tall! I'd have to be star gazing for that thing to get in my field of view.

It happens to me as well, it’s normally at 4 way stops where the rear view mirror blocks out a car on the right and I don’t see it unless I lean to the right to look around the mirror. It’s definitely not the end of the world by any means, but gets old quick. Can’t wait to take that little bastard down once I get a camper

Interesting, are you really tall or sit close to the steering wheel?

Im 5'11" and i also recline the seat so far that the rear seating room is non existent. Maybe thats why it never bothered me.:notsure:

Nope, not that tall. I have 1.5" rear-risers on the seat, though.

Either way, it's just a personal thing. I like unobstructed windshields. I don't like putting toll transponders on them, using the dash sill to hold a phone, anything.

Changing the mirror was a huge improvement to me.

I'll learn to love the camera housing. It's my new best friend.

Especially with the social isolation nowdays, you might get very close with the camera housing :)

I’m 6’2” so anything I drive the seat is always pretty far back. A big reason I got an access cab was so I wouldn’t have anyone trying to sit behind me haha

I'm 6'2" and the rearview mirror completely blocks my view when I drive up a mountain on windy roads (on right turns). I have to literally duck down in order to see the road under the mirror (and it's pushed up all the way).

Just before this stupid corona thing I was ready to trade my truck for a 4Runner, because of those visibility issues and overall seating comfort. Now that used car values are falling though, I'm stuck with the truck. If I still have a job in a few months and new car prices go down a little, I might just take the loss and get the 4R.
