Been doing some work on this 1976 12 foot Gregor and thought I'd document it in case anyone is into it. Trying to set it up to motor around in the Delta up here in Northern CA. Progress pictures incoming!

Another member of the #tinboatnavy Awesome man. Looking forward to your progress! Seems to be a bunch of steam behind working over those old tin v's for the delta.

Enjoy the process and have fun!

Spent a lot of time stripping paint off the outside. Used some paint remover to get the rop layers of paint off then followed up with an orbital sander, wire wheel and a whole lot of elbow grease. Got it to where I wanted it to be before paint.

Got it all taped off and then painted. Used Sky Hawk due to not needing any primer and the overall quality of the paint itself. Decided on a blue and gray color scheme on the outside. I didnt paint the bottom, figured it would just get dinged and scratched anyway.

Thanks! Working on getting a new transom built, hopefully I'll get this updated quickly. More fun to work on it then document it though!

Nice!! I’ll keep an eye out for you, I usually launch out of kings island in a 14ft tracker duck boat and fish that whole area, from potato slough to 14 mile slough.

where are you launch out of?

I've never launched around here. This is my first little boat and will be the first time launching in the Delta. The only Marina I've taken a look at is Big Break and a couple others friends have mentioned.

After getting the exterior paint finished I should have been done. Instead, I decided to tear apart the inside and create an interior to my liking.

I had in mind the following:
    • Paint interior to a more neutral color
    • Remove fixed seat boards and create storage underneath
    • Remove bow bench and build a small casting deck as well as storage for battery and anchor
    • Remove electrical and re-do according to new storage solution
    • Remove crusty transom and build a fresh one
Tearing apart the interior was quick. At this time I felt I needed to replace the transom as it looked a little worn. I wanted to feel confident in the transom when the future gas motor is mounted up.

Transom is done. I was worried going into it that I would have to cut some of the aluminum to get it out but that wasnt the case.

Removed all thru hull bolts, got a couple of chisels in the wood and was able to wiggle the transom down little by little on both sides.

New transom was made with three layers of half inch ply, glued together and then covered in three coats of fiberglass resin. Super sturdy and waterproof. Should last a while!20200502_104447.jpg 20200502_104438.jpg 20200505_122340.jpg 20200505_184831.jpg 20200504_183741.jpg 20200509_202143.jpg

Wiring is mostly done. Got the bilge pump, front and rear lights and fishfinder hooked up to individual switches with their own fuses. I hooked up a hot plug for the trolling motor so all I have to do is plug it in and it's in business.

Got the bilge pump wired to a switch, mounted at the low point in the rear and plumbed out through the transom. Its 800 GPH, should help bail any water that might come in (knock on wood).

Finally got her out in the water! Held up just fine with the trolling motor for a few hours.

Currently working on a 1992 Johnson 15 hp outboard that should be done shortly. Got the carb rebuilt and spark plugs changed. Just waiting on some sealant for the new water pump and then i should be able to fire it up. Should make this thing rip!

I think I'm going to drop it off at a mechanic this weekend. It's being temperamental, and I need someone else to work on it before I kick it over! :annoyed:

I am, however, going to start working on the front deck today. Want to get the battery out of the way and put a pedestal seat up front.

Had some time this weekend to do a little work. Bought a 2017 Yamaha 9.9 four stroke which I'm excited to use. The cavitation plate was about an inch and a half below the bottom of the boat so I came up with an easy way to raise the motor up which I believe should do the job. Used some 1.5 inch tube, bolted on either side into the transom with 3 inch stainless lag bolts. Cavitation plate is now perfectly even with the bottom of the boat. Going to pull it off, paint it then bolt in with some marine sealant.

    20201124_145813.jpg

Once this was done I also bolted the motor through the transom so it doesnt fall off and leave me stranded.
