Any lock. When everything is new, the wafers are perfectly flush with the barrel and when the barrel is turned, everything is happy. When the key gets worn down from rattling against other keys in your pocket, the wafers are no longer perfectly flush. The wafers start rubbing on the body. The wafers and the body wear. It’s a very gradual progression till 1 day no worky.
