Alright, I have a 2007 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab Short bed V6 4.0 with 158k miles, it threw a P0300/P0304 and a P0305 code. I have done all the regular maintenance on it. The truck was bought with 30k miles on it and who knows what happened during that. Multiple Misfires going down and it was getting old on the engine, so I said f it. I have been looking for an excuse to rebuild the truck anyhow, so I started tearing it down. Plus since the high mileage, I want a fresh engine, so next year I can S/C it out.

So I am rebuilding my entire engine from the ground up atm. I have the engine tore all the way down to the block and am waiting on snail mail for the rest of my parts and a machine shop to open up in their new spot before I can go anywhere else with the build basically. I am replacing the internals of the entire engine with all OEM or better parts, spec-u headers/y-pipes and exhaust. CSF Aluminum FJ radiator and shroud. Every single sensor is getting replaced, urd exhaust cams, going to have the heads/throttle body/lower intake manifold port and polished and 1mm oversized intake and exhaust valves put in and possibly beehive valve spring kit, new crankshaft, forged headers, and rods, all new camshafts and timing system will probably stay OEM but brand new. Every single Radiator/heater/vent hoses “even the little ones will be replaced with all HPS blue hosing. All new pumps and Blue NST pulleys. Pretty much everything but the block and valve covers are going to be replaced.

If you want all the little pre molded HPS radiator hoses that go to the heads and other places. I found that the FJ cruiser kit “15-1547-the color here” has the little pre molded radiator hoses and fit the Tacoma, unfortunately the heater hoses themselves do not. But I wanted the little ones

more pics and info added as I go along. Got questions, feel free to ask

I am also going to probably replace all the fuel lines, and definitely POR-15 and Top coating the frame in its entirety

Also going to take this in and have a fabrication shop fab up a aluminum radiator reservoir with a sight hose on the side all polished. Will install Oil catch can probably “Mishimoto baffled” and have the momentum gt power package cold air intake on snail mail coming. Bunch of chit from urd, various other places as well

Alright. Got bored and decided to pull the exhaust and intake valves out of the head on the driver side. The valve springs and seals are definitely worn out so they need to get replaced like I thought, was way to easy to compress them to remove the valve retainer pieces. The exhaust side is pretty well full of carbon build up but intake was pretty clean. The bigger holes are intake and smaller holes are exhaust

This is going to be interesting and you have monster balls to do this yourself. A small block Chevy or type 1 VW is one thing but a modern toyota is complicated.

Also, why?? Like its a cool project, no doubt. But did the engine actually need it, or do you just have that much time on your hands now with Covid-19?

it needed a tune-up is all probably along with head gaskets and valve seals is about all. But I got a little carried away with all the free time. Plus my two kids like to pretend to help me. They are 2 and 4

it only looks complicated lol. And some of it can be. But I always take lots of notes and pics while tearing it down. I grew up helping/watching my dad rebuild all our vehicles and everyone I have owned I have done all the work on it also. But yea, this is fun for me lol. Keeps the Ol mind busy.

The internals (except for valves where you would expect) look really clean. Idle hands and the devil, etc. I guess

Here’s a few picks of the engine block. Just waiting for me to finish it out lol. It’ll be a few weeks before it starts coming together. Waiting on a new shop to reopen, waiting on nst pulleys, headers, Blah Blah Blah. I want absolutely nothing to be the weak link once I am done doing this. When the new crankshaft, forged pistons, bearings, rings and rods come in, I’ll unbolt the transmission and lower it, pull the block, replace all those parts, new motor mounts and do the front frame por-15, then drop the motor back in, replace rear main seal and flexplate, bolt transmission back up, upper and lower oil pan. Oh yea and while the transmission is down I’ll paint the middle frame as well and all new body mounts and transmission mount. Then hopefully the heads will be done by then and I can start putting it all back together. Not necessarily in that order. But it’ll all be clean by the time I’m done lol. My mind goes in several directions at the same time. I’ve been told I write and work in code lol

The URD Spec-U exhaust and y-pipes came in today. They definitely don’t go cheap on packaging and making sure it gets to you in one piece and not messed up. Now I am waiting on the URD Spec-U headers to come in whenever they are done be ceramic coated. A little different design than the picture they have on their website. But I like it

A few more odds and ends trickling in slowly for the build. Alaska mail was always a little slower than the rest. But even slower nowadays with cover-19 lurking around.

A new oil cap from ClutchMasters, oem pulleys off e-bay and oem rear main seal from URD today. I have got a few urd stickers now lol
