    Cooper AT3/4S is pretty light:

    255/70R17 is 41 lbs
    255/75R17 is 39 lbs.

    285/70R17 is 46 I think.

E load range tires are likely to be overkill for Tacoma on the road, because our trucks aren’t that heavy. I can attest to decreased fuel economy, harsher ride, and increased noise when going from stock OR tires to E rated mud terrains. This is partly why I plan to have a second set of P rated tires for daily driving. I like the increased height, so I wish I could find a P rated 33”.

That’s the rub. Tire manufacturers do not publish the info; not even for bicycle tires. It generally requires a altruistic individual with the proper equipment, knowledge, and wealth to test the tires. However, I do think in theory that a P rated tire will generally have less rolling resistance than a E rated tire due to the extra material on the E rated. This has been more or less the general rule of thumb for bicycle tires. Low rolling resistance road race tires are thin and fragile compared to commuter tires.

Yeah, but I like the extra layers just because I offroad my truck and would rather not blow a tire out on the trail!

I would compromise and take an 8 ply.
