Yeah had the same thing happen to my Abu Garcia rod. I’m done buying the off the shelf big name rods (Lews, Abu Garcia, Shimano, etc.) and buy actual dedicated fishing rods now. 90% of my rods are Dobyns now and I haven’t had a single issue with one, plus their warranty is pretty awesome. Do have a few of the Six Gill and have not had a problem with those either.

I've looked at Dobyns...I hear they're awesome rods. Or I might just get another Phenix rod too. Unbelievable how light and sensitive those rods are. Yeah, it was a total shock to me when mine snapped....couldn't believe it. My brother saw it happen and was like; "what the fuck just happened?" Luckily I had a spare Fenwick rod in the truck yesterday. Was able to paddle back and switch out pretty quickly.

Great rods for the price! I would still have mine if it didn't get stolen out of the back of my Tacoma a couple of years ago.

First time I’ve seen a headless sea lion in Alameda. Some guys the other night swore the kept seeing a big fin swimming around. Looks like it’s been dead awhile...

We hit up the Martinez Marina yesterday. We were going to head up into the delta but didn't want to drive with how windy it was. It was way to windy and choppy to fish, but we tried anyways. Gave up after an hour. It was nice to try out the new rods and relax by the water. More incentive to get the dinghy done. Waiting for the glue on the new transom to dry, then coating it in fiberglass resin and putting it back in. Was worried that fucker would be a pain in the ass to get out, and it was until the wife pointed out I didn't take out all the bolts. :anonymous:

Blahhhhh. Fuck the wind! On Sunday in the slough it wasn’t bad, but as soon as we floated into the main sac river channel, holy fuck. You would paddle just to avoid getting blown into the bank. Slough was good though fishing-wise, so it didn’t bother me much that we couldn’t go out to the main river.

Looks like they’re repaving the work parking lot, so I’ll be headed to the delta Friday. Hope to get something.

Just got my Daiwa Tatula spinning rod this morning. Never owned a Daiwa rod, but needed a dedicated ned/drop shot rod and if you buy any Tatula product off tacklewarehouse right now, you get a free long-sleeve HUK fishing shirt. Win-win for me.

First impressions: STUPID light and sensitive. Been casting a hook-less jig around the house all morning through meetings and I can feel even the slightest ticks. Hoping the durability aspect works out for me. Going to be a good rod!

Braid with a Fluro leader and you’ll be setting the hook on everything because it’s all going to feel like a fish! Hahaha. The sensitivity with that line setup is nuts!

I totally stopped doing braid to fluro a couple of years ago out of laziness. Lol I know it jumps the sensitivity meter quite a bit with the right setup, but not sure, maybe I'll start doing it again this year. I have had good luck with straight co-polymer/fluro coated line within the last year, so that's probably another reason I haven't switched back to braid with a leader.

I used a fly rod for strippers once. Caught a couple resident guys in the Napa River. Not very big.

Nice, bet that felt good! I just got home from our Lake. Sat there and jigged that little hand tied crappie jig in front of a bass for like 10 mins before it finally bit. Too hot out, it's like 98 up here.

It’s hot as shit here for what we’ve been used to. I’ll be on the water tomorrow which says will be hotter than today. Hoping to nail some fins.
