3 shocks. 1 passenger and 2 driver. There is about 1/4" of thread at the end of the shock shaft. When the shaft comes out, those threads have been basically ripped off. I actually figured this out from asking the same question and got a little bit of the same feedback. Tried to pull the shock out, and fluid shot everywhere when the shaft came out.

Honestly the 5100's just arent that great for heavy duty applications. One of those things where i think they get better feedback then they should.

That's really interesting. I didn't realize they were having those sorts of problems. Thanks for sharing your history with them.

I know that's why it's not recommended to use an impact gun to drive down the main nut on the top of the stud, because the shaft will most likely rotate and that could cause the nut at the bottom to come loose, and ultimately cause a failure like what happened to you. Not to say that's what happened here, but that's why we hold the top of the strut and use a ratcheting wrench to tighten it down without the shaft rotating.

I was aware that an impact could do that. my thought is that 650# springs, plus a 35x12.50 load range e tire on a full drop out is just too much for them. I ended up installing a limit strap to limit down travel. Also, those straps have a little bit of stretch so it helps prevent a hard impact on the shocks stopper.
