I’m sure this battery is near its end. It’s the stock battery and I gor the truck in 2016. I might just go buy a new one anyway. Any recommendations?

If that is the original battery you did good getting 4 years out of it. Sounds like it’s time to go battery shopping:thumbsup:

I’m a huge fan of the agm style battery but duralast gold has always done well for me it’s got a good warranty also.

Yeah it is the stocker. Can’t complain if it’s life. Only died on me one other time when I was on vacation for 2 weeks. Time for a new one I suppose

4 years is good. Mines a 17 and it lasted either 13 or 24months. I cant remember.
I did the Duralast gold also. Good warranty and needed it ASAP since I had to drive to work the next morning. I did bump up to the 27f from the 24 that came in the truck.
I thought about going AGM but I dont want to have to put a battery tender on it regularly since our alternator cant charge them fully/properly. I'm going to add an AGM as a second battery with a dc-dc charger that can charge it properly!

 If you wanna the best one imho it’s the platinum which is an agm. If your not running a winch or fridge imho wouldn’t be worth the investment but they last a lot longer. I had one for a bit it made the truck start a little faster but recently upgraded to a group 31.

I recently read ovtuning is working on a tune to increase the voltage an agm.

Yes its available with the new vf tuner. I need to look into charging AGMs more but someone commented that while you can get it to the right voltage theres apparently more to properly charging them. I'm not really sure on all of that. I have OVtune and will be upgrading to vf tuner so I will have the ability to bump the voltage for an AGM if I learn it will work properly. I've always planned on going to dual battery anyway and with a dc-dc charger your batterys dont have to match and can charge an AGM properly so I dont know what I'll end up doing now. electricity scares me and AGM's are expensive.

Your absolutely right it scares me to so just the one biggin, I did the fuse to increase vomtage and just slapped on a cheap solar setup it’s pulling 14.5 in full sun that’s enough for me. But I’ve made it a habit at least once a month to hook it to a charger for a few hours.

The fuse option would be nice if it was an option on 3rd gens. Charging control was moved from the fuse on 2nd gens to the ECU on 3rd gens... The DC-DC dual battery charger I think I'm going with(OGE/redarc setup) has solar input and control already so I just have to wire up a solar panel to it and I wont need anything else!

It is nice, just :spending:. Worth it to me though to have a second battery because I'll go out solo and having the second battery will make me feel a lot safer with everything I will be running. Plus if my starting battery takes a crap I can just swap them to get to town and replace the bad starting battery. Not as easy to replace an AGM on a trip so I feel like it may be the best dual battery option if the starting battery goes bad.

All the damned Cato zones are pickup only right now it seems. Gonna call my local Ace auto store tomorrow as they’re closed today. The owner of that shop is always great every time I come in and it’s family owned. Hopefully they have what I need

I like it, if I had an OR I’d go with a dual setup but the abs stopped that and SxS would make me nervous of cracking sheet metal.
