Just spray touch it up. It is super easy.
Using the tintable kit would make it a more expensive touch up but still very easy.

Let me clarify the thread title

I want to do it but what will make me regret doing it?
Will it fade in three years and look horrible?
Will no one be willing to buy it if I choose to sell it?
Will it start to delaminate and chip away slowly?
I guess most of these are more longevity based questions

buddy bedlined his 1st gen tundra. it definitely faded quick, like less than 2 years it looked "dull". it was forest green and faded to almost an army green. but its been like 9 years since he did it and its held up fine. just a play truck and i dont think hes resprayed it anytime.

but yea it was heavy enough to feel it in the driving characteristics and the truck looks kinda shitty now (or at least the last time i saw it) but as stated, up to you.

Prep work will make you hate your life. If you get quality you’ll totally be fine, stay away from the cheap shit like herculiner.
Same goes for the rest of questions. I think you sprayed it you’d be more happy. when I did mine as an impatient teenager I didn’t get em even coat rolling it and now it’s rusting where it wasn’t completely covering.

Also, I’ve ground pounded a couple deer and the liner I used have bent with the sheet metal. Rocks and shit will tear it up.

If you can feel the weight this adds to your truck then you could probably get hired on somewhere as a scale.. there’s no way in hell you’re gonna “feel it”.

Raptor holds up well over time, plenty of longevity threads out there. I can’t personally speak to other brands. Just one example, and local, is a guy here on TW who did his 1st gen and posted up a picture 4 years later for someone else who asked the same, looked the same as the day he finished applying it.

As for resale, it’s not for everyone, but then again neither are Tacoma’s. Some folks might think it’s dumb or heavy, and that’s fine. Other folks will think it’s really cool and a bit unique. Like I said earlier, I bought my bronco for 5k and sold it for 16k, so it certainly didn’t hurt my resale value (sold it to the first person who saw the truck in person as well).

If you take your time prepping and follow the directions on the product you won’t have to worry about any delamination, chips can happen, but it is much less likely than regular paint (again, so long as the prep was good). Touch up is easy, you just scuff the area and feather it in with the sprayer.

Having actually gone down this road before and speaking from experience owning a bed lined vehicle, I had zero regrets. I will be doing it to my taco once my paint no longer looks good, guaranteed.

if we’re choosing between putting on 40s or bedlining the exterior

    I’m voting 40s.

There is somewhere in one of the manufacturers literature that states some ridiculous weight per square foot. It is so far off that I image it has a decimal off by a place or two. Common sense says that if you apply a product that weighs 9 pounds per gallon, at most you are adding 9 pounds of weight per gallon applied, not even factoring in the part that evaporates as it dries.

Sums up my thinking, and I'll be doing my truck this summer. Going with a light gray (on a Lunar Mist truck), so I don't have to paint inside the doors, etc., just the exterior surfaces.
