My 05’ SR5 has 107K miles and the clutch has yet to be replaced (to my knowledge). Ever since I’ve owned it the clutch has been funky, very hard to engage (pressure) and just a general weird release unlike in any vehicle I’ve felt. The throw out bearing also needs to be replaced, the chirping noise is getting on my nerves,(may be the cause of the clutch feeling). Even if all the symptoms are from the throw out bearing I figured I mind as well replace the clutch while they already have it apart. They called me back today and said it would be $1,400..... I am pretty mechanically inclined and have done the work on all vehicles I have owned, but Since it’s my daily driver I didn’t want to mess anything up and have a mess on my hands, but with that price I’m just gonna do it myself, any recommendations on special tools I will need? Aftermarket clutch recommendations or just go OEM?

I’m gonna get some quotes from a few shops that are within a few hundred miles just to see how realistic that price actually is also.

I had mine done about 5 years ago for $1,250. The throw out bearing chirp returned about a year after replacement, but the clutch feels great. I don't even notice the sound anymore.
