Truck won't allow me to lock doors

My truck is preventing me from locking the doors as if the key is in the ignition (the feature to automatically avoid locking your keys in the vehicle).

I have a hard key with remote functions (manual trans does not have key fob and push start).

    Here's what happens when you...
    Park.
    Turn the ignition to off.
Remove the key from the ignition.
    Exit the truck.
    Shut the door.
Press the lock button on the remote...and nothing happens.
Press the unlock on the remote... and nothing. (As if the remote batteries are dead. They are not).

    So next I try this...

    Open the door.
Press the lock button on the door panel...
The doors lock and immediately unlock themselves. This happens no matter how many times you press the door panel lock button. It will lock all locks and immediately unlock itself.

Next, I tried using the spare key remote to lock it... nothing. As if the batteries were suddenly dead in it, too. They are not.

The only way to lock or unlock the truck is by standing outside the driver's door (with it shut) and inserting the key into the door.

    Anyone seen this?
    What's the problem?
Guessing I'm gonna have to see the dealer.

Is your spare key fob in the vehicle?

Perhaps there is a bad connection in the ignition/ key hole so the truck thinks the key is still there?

There is no key fob, but the spare hard key remote is not in the vehicle. It also does not work if you attempt to remote lock/unlock.

You would think it would chime or something, but everything else is normal.

    Check some of the obvious first;
    Key fob battery?
Cycle the key in/out of ign. a few times, maybe a little pen lube.
Maybe try to cycle the battery, could be a glitch in the ECU.

All the usual diesel truck mods- fuel system upgrade, programmer, CAI, intake manifold, 60MM stealth turbo
This is probably obvious but all doors completely closed and no open door lights on the dash?

Also, pay attention to what the lights in the dash do, or the security light by the AC controls.

I think the radio shows some options for door locks too.

That's true. Could be the fob battery. Leave the key outside, get inside the truck and shut the door, then try to lock it. Should lock, should NOT lock with the door open

Try locking the door using door panel then close door... If that works then it's your key not working.

    battery... !!

Toyota's power door actuators are junk too. but that usually gives 4-6 beeps if that's about to crap out. The part isn't crazy expensive, but not cheap either ($150-250ish) try as a last resort and only if it's not the battery

I had a similar problem last summer in my ‘18 with a 12 volt USB charger that was plugged into the cigarette lighter outlet. Once I unplugged it the problem went away.

I believe if you have a fob in the truck and try to lock it it fires a tornado siren at you. Since your not getting anything, I'd guess it's an issue with the fob.

The fob/remote battery is not dead, guys .

I edited the first post to make it more clear what's happening.

The spare key remote is not in the vehicle.

Did all of this (minus the pen lube)... even left the battery disconnected 10 mins. No change.

Yep, first thing I checked while scratching my head.

Please read original post. Tried it.

    :duh:

THIS!!! The problem started the same day I plugged in a 12v charger for my handheld radios. That was the first time I'd used this. I unplugged it at some point, and magically the truck is working correctly today. :cookiemonster:

What kind of weird ass glitch is this? For what it's worth, my Amazon double usb charger that plugs into the 12v outlet does not cause this issue to happen. Thanks for your reply.
