If you drink 6 40's you'll spend more time pissing than wrenching.

Mine took about 2 hours, welded. The factory clearance between the driver's side frame rail and the spare tire is tight. The exhaust pipe will fit, but it helps to loosen the spare for extra room to mount the pipe and center between the two tailpipes.

Had the total flow master system, catalytic's all the way to the tailpipe on the tundra. Worked good, but the drone was a bit much at low rpm. I swear the truck felt it had more top end hp after.

Definitely more top end hp. Currently looking for way to deaden the sound inside the cabin without having to install something under carpets, or anything in the interior

The 2017 I just purchased has the flowmaster system with dual pipes. I was researching whether I can replace the muffler with something that doesnt have that buzzsaw sound?

Be sure to have it welded. I installed mine and she was in cabin loud. I took her to a muffler shop and had it welded in for $40. Now it's barely noticable. Super 50 series muffler sounds best on Tacomas.

I can’t stand aftermarket exhaust notes on anything less than 8 cylinders. I don’t know how y’all do it.

Catback Flowmaster dual exhaust system-Serve duty tow package brake system for front and back-
I recently installed a catback system on my 2006 Tacoma Extend Cab with a 4.0 V6. I'm a old school muscle car builder and I love the sound a Flowmaster muffler makes with or without headers. Technically the job of any muffler is to quite the sound of the engine exhaust period, some have said it does improve performance but not by much. I did find some aftermarket companies that sell kits that bolt-up easily with a Flowmaster FlowFx or Super 50 muffler which is low in the aggressive sound chart, you can find this chart on Flowmaster's website. I did find a company on eBay that sells a kit with a Super 44 which is two mufflers away from Flowmaster's most aggressive street chambered mufflers. The entire kit sells for around $330.00 plus tax and it doesn't come with the donut gasket that goes between two tailpipes that will need to be disconnected to remove the original factory exhaust. It really is easy to do this, I did it in my driveway lying on some cardboard. I have the Tacoma TRD off-road model which sets up high from the factory so I jacked up the rear axle and placed jackstands under the frame and lowered the truck onto them so the rear axle could hang down giving me more space. My 4.0 V6 exhaust system goes as followed, two exhaust manifolds leading into two cats, leading from the two exhaust pipes into one. Follow that to where you see two flanges bolted together, use WD-40 and losen those two bolts but do not remove the nuts...they are welded in place. I recommend replacing those two bolt and springs and the exhaust donut, which you can find at your local auto parts store. I always take my old parts with me to match them up with the new ones. There is a special tool to help slide the exhaust from those rubber hangers, but I found a large pair of channellocks and some WD-40 works great but be careful not to damage or tear those rubber hangers...they are expensive. After lightly lubing those rubber hangers I found it easy to slide them off by hand by pushing up on the exhaust pipes or muffler. Take your time and remove one hanger at a time as you work your way towards the rear. Once you've freed the muffler the tailpipe is the last one to remove, you will need to place something over the top of the axle so the exhaust pipe doesn't accidently hit and damage the steel brake line and some electrical wires. I used a thick sponge and duct taped it down. After you've freed the tailpipe slide the whole system forward, towards the front, as you twist it clockwise over the axle and you'll find out that it comes out in one piece without having to cut it apart. I did it this way because the original one worked fine and passed smog this year, so I will turn around and sell it as used. The kit I bought turns my exhaust from single to duals coming out from the muffler but if you want to stay single they have one for that too. I found that the new kit was easy to install and hang up, I used a extra jackstand(s) as a third or fourth hand to rest the exhaust pipe or the muffler on as I made my connection. The welded metal hangers were surprisingly in their correct positions and if your installing dual exhaust, do the passenger side first and snug up the exhaust clamps then install the drivers side. Check everything over making sure each pipe goes in as far as it can, a extra exhaust pipe is in the kit if you need more pipe. Once I got the pipes to slide all the way together I then used a black sharpie and marked the pipes where they connected so when I got to a muffler shop I could tell if the pipes slid apart. Make sure your muffler is laying flat and tighten up those clamps tight. I recommend taking your truck to a muffler shop and have them put a weld on each connection to prevent the pipes from slipping apart. Check with your local smog shop first and find out if it will pass smog inspection with this kit installed. Now for the sound, all I can tell you is that I was not disappointed...there was a big smile on my face and a Oh Yeah!! If you've heard the newer Camaros or Challengers with a V6 than that's what you can expect and once the muffler gets hot the sound gets deeper. Don't get this sound mixed up with a V8, it will never happen especially with a stock motor with stock exhaust manifolds. Now I have a automatic trans so when I accelerate from a stop I can hear it and as the trans goes through the gears the sound gets quieter, but what a sound when I step into it. Those concerned about this Drone sound, which is music to my ears, understand your installing a more aggressive muffler so if you can't hang with that then leave your exhaust alone.

I just installed a MBRP dual exhaust and it took me about 2 hours. The thing I thought would be the hardest to do, removal of the stock exhaust was the easiest. Did it all with the truck sittings on the ground. Just need to do some fine tuning on the tailpipes but all in all I like it...

BTW, MBRP was super fast shipping, ordered it Monday morning and it was delivered Tuesday afternoon.
