    Hey all,

I did search but didn’t find specifically what I am looking for.

I got my notice to have my frame CRC’d. I live in the northeast but I don’t drive her much because I have a work vehicle so the frame is in great shape with just a little rust on the leaf springs and some surface rust in a few other areas. I just turned 39k and she is a highway queen.

I don’t really trust that the dealership will do a great job and/or that this band-aid solution will actually work.

I was thinking about having a guy I know put this on the lift and steam Jenny the whole frame and coat with something prior to the CRC.

Looking for opinions here for those who have more experience with frames than I. Product recommendations would help as well, not looking to fluid film every year as I don’t off road. I know rubber undercoat is no good but what about other stuff? What happened to the old smelly creosote type undercoat? I don’t think salt can get through that stuff.

    Thanks in advance

I read somewhere, where you want to clean the frame, but not put anything on it. Appears if Fluid Film or other substances are found on the frame, they will not do the CRC.

Personally, I would not do much of anything because it might void the warranty extension. Just let the dealer do what it's supposed to do and you're covered. If you're going to do anything, just pressure wash it since they will forced air dry it anyway.

Thanks. I just reread the notice and didn’t see anything like that. It only mentions aftermarket parts and frame replacement restrictions.

Your probably right. I just don’t want a half assed job.

Remember, even a half assed job by the dealership extends your frame warranty. If they refuse to do it because of something you did, you're SOL.

Do you think I'll have to remove sliders? I just got my notice last week and it would be a good time to get it done since I'll be stuck at home for the next 3 weeks. I can pressure wash most of the fluid film off since most of it is gone considering the last time I had it sprayed was at least a year ago.

Second this...just let them do their thing. My frame was replaced many years ago at this point, and I knew it was bad at the time as I had been pulling chunks off for a couple years at that point. If yours is as good as you describe, you have nothing to worry about...the CRC won't hurt anything. Yeah, they'll probably get it on stuff they shouldn't, but that's the price you pay.

I do not think they can refuse to do the CRC if you applied fluid film. That’s not a permanent coating and there is no law, and nothing in the warranty, saying you are not allowed to put that on your truck.

Remember, it is not your fault Toyota can’t create a rust-free frame to save their lives.

Any chance you could attach a pic of the notice? I'm curious to see what Toyota is saying about it. I got the original notice months ago but haven't received anything about the CRC yet.

It’s just the interim notice. I’m planning ahead.

I would want a better source than that, but I think I’ve made my decision to just power wash before they do the coating. Thanks all!

I called my local dealer and asked them some questions. They clean the inside of the boxed frame rails and coat those only. I have been using wool wax and the frame is spotless from rust. I asked if there would be an issue, he doesn't know how they would react but it gets cleaned and they'll still coat it.

As part of the CRC they are supposed to wash the area to be treated, then they put some large hoses up in the boxed part of the frame under the motor and blow warm air in there and dry everything out. Then the CRC application is done. The spray inside the boxed section of the frame and back to where the reinforced or double C-Chanel ends. The rest of the frame is untouched. They shouldn’t refuse you for haveing fluid film on your fame.
I would get some fluid film and go under the truck when you get it back in case they cleaned a little to far back.
I say a truck in the hoist while they were putting it on, in my opinion it looked like really good stuff.
