Replaced the 1x6’s that I used last year with some 2x6’s to keep the soil in. The 1’s were bowed out pretty bad

    Time to plant!

Spinach is mostly harvested and the Swiss Chard, tomato's, peppers, squash, and cucumber are setting on nicely. I almost had a heart attack when I was working in the corner of the yard on some starts and a duck came flying out of the monkey grass under the crepe myrtles, lol. She has some chicks in the grass. I'm trying to leave them all undisturbed.

Same here. We spent 3 hours yesterday cobbling together frames and covers for our raised beds and garden. I am not sure the plants are going to make it, they were looking kind of yellow today. 60+ plants including tomatoes, peppers, summer squash, cucumbers, lettuce, etc and various annual flowers. Never had a frost this late that I can remember in 16 yrs living in Virginia.

Mother’s Day is usually my early target for planting warm weather crops but this year I got greedy and went a week earlier but only with tomatoes and peppers I grew myself. Looks like I will lose a few but saved some. Didn’t have out the other warm weather crops yet like you did thankfully. My best gardens have always been planted Memorial Day or after, but I just can’t wait most years. It is what it is but we’ll still have a garden this year it’s just part of it sometimes.

Edit...after a quick survey this morning looks like I lost only 3 peepers and 2 tomatoes for sure and maybe a couple more of each will have to wait and see. Got lucky only to lose that few. Of course I lost all my potatoes that were up but they should grow back no problem.

Fortunately, the only plants I've moved outside were either in those portable boxes or were in the cold frames on the front of the house, so no losses from Mother Nature's temporary insanity.

Another round of frost forecasted for tonight. Wish I would have thought of the buckets the first time around. Much easier way to do it.

Damn, that's a lot of buckets. If you get wind you need to put a rock, or something, on them to keep them from blowing over.

No wind tonight like a few days ago. I worked them in to the dirt but thought about if windy would have to do something else. It’s about 60 buckets

With the warm rainy winter and cold windy spring that we've had so far, I'd say she's already pissed, lol.

Don't make the mistake of thinking she can't ramp it up, she can. It could always be worse!

I shoveled 1780 pounds of compost today. About half of it was used as a top dressing on my garden beds. Used some in my front yard to cover grass seed that I put down over the area we had a new water line put in last fall. Saved some in tubs for top dressing later in the summer.

I don’t think I need to water anytime soon. It’s been raining for 3 days.

My wife wanted to add her style to our back yard garden by placing a 4 foot Virgin Mary on the hillside.

First she had the gardeners use my blocks for the pit fire I was building to add steps up the hill and a nice half round graudo at the top.

That's fine, I can get more later on. Better them than me, that is like cement up there.

At least they did a good job of it. She also bought a pair of solar spot lights to light it up at night.

I made sure to aim the lights so they don't shine into the neighbors bedroom.

Our back yard is lit up pretty nice with solar lighting now.

Even with the record cold spring, late freezes, and way too much rain this spring the garden is starting to look the part. A little rough in places but not bad considering.
