Hello everyone, I just purchased my first ever Pick up and could not be happier that it is a Tacoma! I bought it used, 2016 SR5 extended cab 2.7L and I took it to my mechanic today for an inspection as the car had a “check vehicle stability control system” and after he plugged it in to the computer, he tells me it gives him a P1578 error.
After looking it up it seems to be an error with the brake booster/ brakes system.

I called in the toyota dealer and they quoted me $750+ for the complete brake booster system as apparently it comes in a part as a whole.

this is a bummer as I just got the truck and totally love it and would rather spend the money on mods but what can we do....(it’s a rebuilt title with prior front damage) and I know that with rebuilt cars it’s a bit like rolling the dice.

if anyone has ever had this error or is familiar in what may be causing it would be great help!!

thank you all for the help and awesome insight in these forums!

Well you need to look up code setting criteria for that code and diagnose from there...whipping out the parts cannon and firing away ain’t gonna fix it...and with a rebuilt title your already hip deep in shit as the repairs exceeded the value of the vehicle is to why the insurer wrote it off as junk in the first place.

P1578 is a generic SAE code...
Toyota-specific P1578 in your Tacoma, points towards a malfunction in the VSC, that manifests itself during cruise control operation.
I'd take it to Toyota for further diagnostic.

It might be as simple as recalibrating your zero point.
