Sounds like a bad battery, they last about 2 years. Other than that could be the tiny circuit board inside is bad. Seen that issue if the key is dropped a few times. I had issues with door latch switch recently that wasn't working properly telling the master warning light on the dash the door was open. Took the switch out and sprayed it with an electrical contact cleaner/lubricant. So far haven't had the issue anymore.

The charger or the radios are/were sending out a radio frequency that caused the truck to think there was a key in it.... In 28ish years of fixing Euro Trash Cars (it's a good living, that shit is broken 24/7) for a living I've seen similar thing happen more than once.

That's so weird. The radios were switched off the whole time they charged.

I read (yes Meckanics can read) about a town in the Appalachian Mts that has a Radio Telescope near it. It was amazing the number of electronic gadgets in the near by town that were causing "radio noise". They even have to use Diesel cars and trucks on site due to interference from the spark plugs firing...
Had a customer with 2 Mercedes cars (an E-class and an ML) that were the same year. Had both cars towed in on the same day for a no start. Turns out having both keys in his pocket caused the security system to shut them down.

I had the problem over several days in the summer and realized the solution entirely by accident. In my case I was charging a portable cellphone battery pack for charging my phone while I was on a back country trip. I had thought that the battery pack was feeding power back to the adaptor and the truck when the truck was shut off and that was what was causing the problem. I hadn’t considered radio interference.

Either way, that’s what this place is about. I see the thread and think “hey, I had that same problem and I know what caused it  I will add my 2 cents”.

After I had read the other responses and seen that no one had already provided the same comment of course...

If only @kuffer14 had sought the advice of the community before he had reason to paint his entire truck with bed liner.

Glad you helped solve this mystery for me...and for anyone else who stumbles into here.

What's the story with the bedliner paint job?

The radios are great. Just don't expect your locks to work if you charge them in the truck. Ha. I rarely need to do this anyway.

It's strange that the 2 radio base would come with a seperate 12v cigarette lighter style cord to use and not be intended for car charging. You're right, though. Each handheld radio has a small port on the side that's labeled mic/chg

Glad you got yours fixed. I had the exact same problem in my second gen, and the problem was the ignition switch was a little sticky so when I pulled out the ignition key, it still thought the key was in there. Sprayed in some keyswitch lube and worked it in and it fixed mine.

I own an auto tranny so I'm just spit balling: When you initially turned off your ignition is your tranny in neutral or in gear (1st)?
