I put a 21" barrel on my Remington 870 and it shoots just okay with my factory turkey choke and XR.
My Remington 11-87 with same choke, same load, and 26" barrel shoots lights out.

I will eventually get a better choke for the 870 since I know it is a great gun and much easier to tote around and maneuver. I will upgrade the choke but keep the same shells (Long Bear XR). Until then i will be using the 11-87 since it shoots so well with just the Remington turkey choke and Long Beard XR.

 

Maverick 88 made by Mossberg . I have the Mossberg 500 barrel on it . Rhino choke tube . I will grab a picture in a few minutes .

 

All guns are different for sure. I don't know much about that particular model, but sometimes you just gotta try different combos to get it where you want it.

That's a nice set up! Can you adjust the sights at all? Some of those targets you had showed good patterns, but like you said they were just up high. If not, just stick with the shells you already have faith in for now and maybe change for next year if you wanted to try different stuff.

The sights slide if you want up and down the vent rib . That’s it . Was thinking about a red dot . This gun kills turkeys but maybe it’s time for an upgrade . I’m keeping my eyes open for a deal on a turkey specific gun for next season . Unless the choke I have coming shoots really well !

I would try sliding the rear sight down and back to drop your pattern down some.

 

Towards the muzzle or towards my face ? I was just reading that a larger front sight should bring your pattern down also

Recommend not worrying about shooting a small target and shoot at least a 3'x3' piece of paper or cardboard. Place a piece of tape or paint small circle on it for purposes of aiming. That larger target will allow you to see your entire pattern and find out where your gun/choke/ammo is impacting (POI) relative to aim (POA). POI can/will move with one change (ammo/choke/Weather). Most of the choke manufacturers have similar instructions. Once you find the pattern combo you like you can adjust your sites so POI and POA match.

 

You would move it whichever way bring the rear sight up higher. Move it just a bit at a time just to make sure it is moving in the right direction.

 

My understanding is to move (Up/Down) rear sight in the direction you want to move the shot.
Raise Rear = Raise Shot
Lower Rear = Lower Shot
BTW, I couldn't see your patterns that well on the cardboard until now...they look pretty good just high. Winchester says that combo (#5s) should have like 153 pellets in a 10" circle at 40 yards.
Also, wad plastic will build up in the choke and reduce your pattern density.

 

If you lower your rear sight , usually by sliding it back, the front sight and muzzle (and thus point if impact) will hold relatively lower if you maintain the same sight picture as before u moved the sight

do like @SC3 said and shoot at a bigger piece of paper with a dot in the middle to hold on (butcher paper works great)
Bump the rear sight down til main body of the pattern centers where u want it. It’s prolly gonna take a lot of trips back and forth to hang new paper lol.
Also like sc3 maybe try a few different chokes even a few thousandths if an inch difference in constriction can make a huge difference

 

I'm working on a new turkey gun for next year so some experience from this past week.
I actually use a 4'x4' piece of paper at 20 yards with 5 pieces of tape. One in the center and one in each corner about 1' from the sides.
I'll shoot this until I get my POI and POA close (shooting a red dot). Then move to 40 yards.
I'll shoot several different shells with one choke. Then change paper and repeat with a different choke.
I do this until I find the combo I like best.
Takes time but you end up with a ammo/choke combo that's consistent and predictble.

If u raise the rear sight then u hold the muzzle higher to compensate which would raise the pattern’s point of impact.....he’s trying to lower it lol
