Rear disc brake conversion on 2nd gen

I’ve had it rust and freeze after river crossings and whatnot. There’s no reason to use it is there?

It was necessary. I was on a steep mountain trail. Slimy mud and big rocks. Not enough gear reduction for finesse under those conditions with the 5 speed.. It was gnarly but we did it. I was impressed with myself and my truck.

I have the stock MC and rear disks. Night and day stopping, noticed at the first test drive. Why? Friction doing its thing.

 

Ok, great. Which brake booster is on your truck? Does it still have ABS?

Only if you compare apples to apples meaning the control truck(s) are as identical as possible being the only diff is the rear disk conversion and/or master cylinder diff.

 

I'm pretty sure his truck will stop quicker. Disc brakes work better than drum brakes.

The 2 trucks are very different as mine has tires and wheels and his truck doesn't so his truck has an immediate advantage in stopping (lmao).

He wrote his truck didn't have the stock MC but then showed pictures of his trucks suspension/disc brakes instead of his trucks MC was amusing to me. If I had that much coin in my trucks suspension and brakes I'd show it off every chance I got too.

Plus the way he entered the thread was amusing to me as well, kind of reminded me of me (lmao).

The biggest advantage to a dual diaphragm booster isn't stopping distance, it's less brake pedal pressure required by the user.

He's easily got more money in his suspension and brakes than I have in my entire truck.

 

It is a 2006 so it is the OE non electric booster, yes it has ABS but 2006 is pre VSC etc

 

There is nothing ultra expensive, just the stop tech kit and mc, being a douche whistle about people that can afford decent stuff is pretty lame. You don’t know me and you don’t know that this is a 2006 that has been a 14 year long project saving up for one piece at a time.

 

I'm just going to throw a mild hypothetical out there about the apples in this orchard, that his apple( from the few pictars available) weighs more than your apple. Could very well be wrong. Only similarity is the tree at this point.

Again, I’m not going to apologize for working my ass off, having a good job, saving and budgeting over 14 years to build my truck. FYI - the rear suspension is completely DIY designed and built in a driveway, it’s far from weld porn maybe $3k total out of pocket including shocks for what a shop would charge $10k ? for.


How are you going to show what calipers you have without posting pics with your wheels off ? I don’t have a pic of the MC and even if I did you couldn’t tell the difference from OE it’s just an oe mc from a sequoia.

There are three options for the rear disc conversion kit and I have the least expensive option which is just T4R calipers. Being an expert I would think that you would want to see what calipers I was using. The three options currently available are T4R calipers ( they come pc’d red which also adds at least 50hp ) then 4 piston and 6 piston upgrade options like what the real big baller @jberry813 has.

Last but not least, I “ entered the thread “ the way I did on purpose for effect because without fail every single time one of these rear disc threads pops up you get a dozen armchair keyboard warriors with zero first hand experience spouting off about how useless and stupid it is when in fact those of us that have done it can speak to it absolutely yielding a big difference.

It would be fun to go out and compare stopping distances but as @Lucario Runner pointed out ...kinda useless if IE: one truck has 285’s and an empty bed and the other truck has the weight of 35’s and 1k lbs of other shit added to it.

 

Tor, whatever you do don’t post a pic of your master cylinder and if you do zoom in on it so he can’t see the $10k fully built turbo’d motor it’s next to...

 

Whoa slow down. If I had the cash I'd dump it into my truck, trust me I got a spending problem lol. You got a really sik truck, idk what else to tell you. Mine is a 2006 too. I'll be lucky if mine ever gets close to what yours is. But brother please, swap that booster trust me!
