    A couple of excerpts:

But now these formerly reusable engines will be flown a single time on the SLS rocket and then dropped into the ocean.

With engine prices like these, it seems reasonable to assume that the cost of a single SLS launch will remain $2 billion in perpetuity.

Wouldn’t surprise me if it never flies.

    Not at $2B a pop. That's ridiculous.

They are planning on letting the boosters swim to save weight. It seems parachutes are heavy.

The thing is, this flight will not have much payload weight.

    Seems like a big waste.

Like @PzTank said, wouldn't surprise me if it never flies. :(

Tim Dodd's last SLS v Starship video has a point. https://everydayastronaut.com/sls-vs-starship/

SLS is what we could get, that could survive multiple administrations and still get funded. Starship is a dream rapidly being made real, but completely not being developed in the way that any government run or contracted program could ever do. But they gotta finish it, first, before they can get a customer to plop down real cash.

    That is the problem. Politics.

Space exploration does not really capture the public's interest, so the pols don't bother funding it.

Heh. I'm grooming the kids to go to Mars. Or at least support the effort. We're gonna need physically active polymaths soon enough.

    That's a great idea.

I remember as a kid, the space program was THE thing! Well, that and bikes and guns and camping - but you get the idea.

I hope we make it to Mars in my lifetime. In my younger years, I would have wanted to go.

Sarcasm: Maybe we could bribe the media to stop the COVID fear mongering and dust off the 'Red Scare" hype machine!

Space Race Part 2: Mars Boogaloo

Edit: I am 100% sure Putin would play along. Maybe Xi Jinping this time? They were the last people to put a something on the moon...
