In anticipation of better days ahead, spent outside and on the water, I am about install an anchor trolley on my Kilroy kayak.

I don't fish out of it much, but hope to change that in the future.

My question is, which side of the boat should I mount the trolley? I am right-handed, but cast with either hand, depending on which rig I am using.

I'm thinking the port (left) side makes more sense, but I may be missing something.

    Any opinions?

I mounted mine on the port (left) side. I'm also right handed. I have the fishfinder mounted on the starboard. I didn't want the trolley interfering with the anchor or vice versa.

    Why not both sides?

I suppose you could. Of course, you would either have to carry 2 anchors or re-rig the anchor every time you switch sides.

I use an anchor when fishing for Black Drum in the Delaware bay. Once I anchor, I attach a float to the anchor line. When a drum is hooked, you disconnect from the anchor, fight and (hopefully) land the fish then relocate the anchor by finding the float, re attach the line and continue fishing. I don't see a need to have an anchor trolley on both sides of the boat. At least not for me and the type of fishing I do.

    Makes sense.

My biggest concern is the trolley getting in the way of casting. Once a fish is on the line, all bets are off - it's not going to stay on a specific side of the boat.

I know this is a older thread and you've probably already decided, but I put one on the left side then ordered another one to put on the right side. This will give me the flexibility to anchor myself how ever I want.

    That's an interesting idea.

I have decided to put on the left side, but have not installed it yet.

I decided to do both sides actually on accident :)

I ordered a trolly on Amazon, but forgot to change the shipping address to home, so it went to my office. Not wanting to wait for it to get picked up by the receptionist, filed, and then placed on my desk (takes like 5 extra days) I went to the local gander mountain and found the same one I ordered. I got that one and installed it. Then eventually went to the office to get the other one and installed that on the other side.

    Opportunist? LOL

Which side do you like better, and does either side get in the way of your casting?

I mostly use the left side as I cast off the right side or front. But I have had a few times where the wind is blowing parallel to shore/partly into the lake, I want to cast down the shoreline off the bow. With the left side trolly my kayak ends up facing away from the shore a bit, but when I switch to the right side trolly it points me the perfect direction and I dont run over the anchor line with the kayak.
