I was putting on my lower control arms the other day and my friend said my exhaust hanger(right side behind door) was loose and there is a hole. After inspecting it there is more than one hole and a pile of rust that was up inside the frame that I easily pulled out from the frame and more holes became visible.

My ? is are there campaigns( lawsuits for 2009 tacoma's)? I have an appointment with Ciocca Toyota(Williamsport, Pa). I have looked online but its up and down with the years and I can't get a straight answer.

Has anyone had there 2009 frame replaced or know of anyone who has had there 2009 frame replaced? I really need solid answers before tomorrow if possible and thanks.

I had mine done last year. I believe you are still in the window to get it replaced. Just call your local dealer and they will advise you.

You should still be good, I just had my 09’s frame replaced in February.

It depends on the first in service date of your particular vehicle. My 09’s first in service date was March something of 2009. The frame replacement campaign states you are eligible within 12 years of that first in service date, so mine was eligible til March of 2021.

It’s good you have an appt set up, seems likely you’ll qualify. Good luck.

Don't hesitate to take it in. Call a dealer that you trust and make as appointment As Soon As Possible

Also, for some reason the first dealer I called seemed to think the campaign was 10 years instead of 12, which is incorrect. They either were truly misinformed or were just trying to shrug me off, either way not someone I wanted replacing my frame. I went with a different dealer.

Be prepared for the dealer to say your vehicle is unsafe to drive back home, you may be going home with a loaner tomorrow depending on how bad the frame is.

no matter what they say this shouldn’t cost you a dime. Don’t let them convince you you’re supposed to pay for any of it. Some dealers are easy to deal with in this issue, mine was, others from what I hear try to get everything they can out of you.

if/ when you get a new frame, consider coating it with fluid film, wool wax or similar to keep this from happening again.

Also, you mentioned your lower control arms.....new LCA’s are part of the new frame package so you may be getting free new ones anyways...

As mentioned, it’s 12 years from date of 1st use. Here’s the way I figure it out. Take your year model and add 12. In your case, 09+12 =21. So, the minute the 2021s show up on the showroom floor, you’re in the 11th hour. If your 09 was the 1st one sold off the lot, the time is VERY near. 1 day past the 12 year mark and you’re SOL.

You’re probably safe until August or September. Your 2009 was likely sold in the fall of 2008 or later.

get the inspection done ASAP! Even if the frame takes 6 months to arrive as long as the inspection was done 1 day prior to the in service date + 12 years they will fix it.

Here is what I got in the mail for my 2009. I thought I had until September of 2021 but I guess I only have about ten months left to have mine inspected... will probably give it one more winter and take it in next January.
