I was a little reluctant but had it done last summer. It was a mess at first, especially in the heat. But it looks really good now. It is adhering well, no flaking. They didn't offer to replace my frame, it wasn't that bad. But I had mixed emotions about that anyway since I have some aftermarket wiring (camera. subwoofer, etc) that would be disturbed in a frame off. I am sure the truck will easily last another 5 years or until I sell it.

As for other rust, though, I have the long bed and those thin tubular braces that connect the bed panels to the frame are rusting away. One broke completely. But that is just a $20 part and a fairly easy DIY fix.

I’m in a similar boat. I have a 13 TRD OR that I bought 3 years ago. I had a 07 Tundra with only 60k on it, that was perfect except for the frame. It was beyond shot, so I traded it in. 3 weeks later I got the full frame recall on the Tundra and felt sick to my stomach.

But now I have a Taco with a decent frame and only 85k miles. They inspected the frame and offered the coating. But everything I read here leads me to think I’m better on my own. So I put it on the lift and did all the prep and paint myself. I’m very happy with the results but wonder if it’s worth doing the CRC on top of a well prepped paint.

It’s Ohio going into December and I know it will never dry in these conditions. But I’m moving to Florida in March. Help me decide. I hear nothing but mixed results and I just want to know if this CRC will ever dry and stay off my skin when working under the truck. I want to keep this Taco forever!

Here's the catch 22. It has been well documented that the stuff the dealer sprays on the frame is crap. However... The '11-'17 warranty extension specifically states that if you don't get the dealer CRC spray within 2 years of the beginning of the WEP(Which was not very long ago), You are not eligible for a free frame in the 12 years from date of 1st use WEP. So, get the dealer spray and hope it rusts out within 12 years of date of 1st use, or don't get the dealer spray, do your own rust prevention, and hope like Hell it doesn't rust out.

I'm predicting that in 2+ years from now, there's going to be people that buy a Taco, then sometime after that(Could be many years), they find out the frame is rusted out and the previous owner didn't get it sprayed. Then they'll be crying the blues because Toyota won't give them a free frame.

Remember the purpose of FF or any "oil" based undercoating, never fully drying means that its self-healing, keeping the frame sealed from oxygen, and most importantly, it doesn't trap moisture like the rubber-based undercoatings. The last thing you want is an undercoating that dries, then with one chip or cracks and moisture will get trapped under it causing rust.

I have had the CRC on my frame for over 5 years and it has held up well. One thing that I think makes a difference is that I coat it once a year with FF and that keeps it supple/elastic.

My frame has been Krown sprayed every year and is in excellent condition despite all the salt they use in Toronto. I am not going go for the CRC stuff which may make it harder for future Krown resprays.

i know Krown works (whole body and underside of my 2004 odyssey is terrific after 15 years) so i will stick with what i know works on my Tacoma.

I am going to wait until spring to have it inspected. I simply don't trust them to not spray without first cleaning and removing salt from winter roads.

    Hey folks,

Just had my 2006 Taco in for some regular maintenance and my local garage showed me that the rust proofing that Toyota applied in late 2015 as part of the Frame Rot recall was delaminating bigtime. Got underneath and found cross members and areas of the chassis rotted through completely.

Called up local Toyota and they basically told me I was SoL as the recall had expired. I am not pleased.

Anybody else encounter a similar situation? Located in Eastern Canada. Looking for some ammunition to go back at them.

    Thanks!

So what about trucks that aren't in the "qualified" states that Toyota defines "High road salt use"? I live in Iowa and they use a large amount of salt like the other states on the list, however it is not listed. What are the options for that? I don't have any issues currently but wondering down the road what may come of that.

I have mine set up to be done on May 12th. they told me they are spraying the INSIDES of the frame and then plugging it.
I specifically asked them the procedure.

They are cleaning and then attaching dryers to the frame for 12+ hours, then spraying and plugging the frame.

So, I called local dealer and talked to the service advisor. He told me my truck had already had the plugs installed, and it woudl be good. Now, does this mean I didnt need the CRC, and God forbid, irt starts to rust, am I SOL? I think, from what I read, that, since they did inspect it, and installed the plugs, I am good, and will be covered.. thanks
