    Hello everyone,

Sadly, someone violated my beautiful truck (jerks!), and now the door lock is messed up. I'm grateful that's the only thing that is damaged, other than my hope for society. However, I had some questions maybe you all could help out with.

    1. Would it be best to repair at the dealer I purchased the car from?
    2. Would should it be repaired at a local body shop, whom my insurnance directly deals with?
    3. If I did the latter, would that in anyway void any warranty with my truck? The truck isn't even a year old.

I uploaded an image of the damage caused onto my precious.

Any advice would be greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Not a hard repair. New lock cyl. The handle doesn't even have to be removed. And no door panel removal. Just the lock cyl and cover are removed by first removing the black plastic cap on the door jamb and than backing off the set screw in the jamb. Don't remove the screw all the way. Just enough to slide the lock cyl cover off.

The key won’t fit in it anymore, so it’s pretty much ruined in that aspect.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Toyota was trying to charge for a $150 inspection fee, so I’m going to check with another body shop and see how they can help out. Both Toyota and the body shop said they would need to change out all key locks if I don’t want to carry two different keys all the time.

buy the lock cylinder yourself, take it and your current key to a locksmith, they will code the new cylinder to your key. then take the truck to a body shop and ask them to swap out the cylinders, if you are not comfortable with doing it. Ski

Looks like you need to go to the dealer with your vin#, registration and your i.d. You'll probably need proof of ownership for any security type part. Part #1. Then you or your body shop if not the dealer install. The dealer can varify the part.
