So I've looked around for instructions or videos on replacing a Fuel Pump in a 2006 Tacoma 4.0L double cab, short bed.
Everywhere I've read said to just lift the bed.
    So I did.
Found out the fuel pump location is under the cab so I had to drop the tank.
Was not bad what so ever.

    I replaced my fuel pump.

    And my relay just because.

But my truck starts good now and runs.
But at a stop my truck shakes as if there is a misfire.
    I have no engine codes.
What do you think it could be.

yeah the DCSB the pump is under the cab unfortunately. DCLB the pump is under the bed.

Could be a bad coil pack / injector.

Also being an 06, do you notice any loss of coolant over time? could be a headgasket issue.

I'll check all my plugs and coils. Replaced the plugs last month. We will see.

Is the fuel level sending unit built into the fuel pump? Mines been acting up lately.

Did you disconnect the battery for a while? If so your fuel trims need awhile to reset and it is normal to feel like it is stumbling a little at idle.

It actually helped alot. Sprayed all the hard to get mud and the gas fill nozzle was easier to move out of the way. I just lifted 1 side. Loosened bolts on passenger side.

It's the throttle plate, when they are gummed up and the battery is disconnected it takes awhile for the idle to relearn. I work at Toyota and we have to clean throttle plates on any disconnect.

You're quite well versed in repairs, may as well clean it regardless, you will notice an immediate change after cleaning the throttle plate and mass air flow sensor. Tons of writeups on them.

"throttle plate" ? Is that Toyota tech jargon for a throttle body? I would think the MAF would have more impact on the slight variations a reset would cause. I do not work for Toyota though.

The throttle plate is in the throttle body, it's what gums up with carbon. When the battery is disconnected the ECU loses its closed position voltage and has to re-learn the position, by default it assumes the plate is clean and shutting properly, but the carbon causes the plate to perform irregularly and thus low idle/stumble.

The MAF does get dirty, but it reads what it reads regardless of if the battery was disconnected. It's just good maintenance to service both at the same time.

I actually clean both on big services secretly without telling customers, this way they feel like their dollar went further on their routine work.

Good to know.... I have been pulling my neg cable alot lately due to electrical work, and have had the stumble every time, sounds like I need to get on throttle body / maf cleaning.

Just found this thread. OP where did you get your pump from? It's looking like I have to do a pump on my truck soon. I have the dreaded p0170/0174 codes.
