I just bought a '19 TRD off-road that only came with one keyless ignition fob. After paying a large sum to the dealer for a 2nd fob and key, I was told that only the service department could program it to my vehicle.

Is that true? I had a Ford dealer tell me the same thing a few years ago, but after doing some research I did it at home, in 5 minutes, with no special tools.

Anyway, I went next door to the service department and was told the cost was $218 to program a new fob!!! You've got to be kidding me.

    Thanks,
    Scott

All I can suggest in hindsight (for future thread readers/buyers) is know what the vehicle comes with and make a full set of OE keys a condtion of purchase. AFTER you agree on a price, but BEFORE you sign.

OP, have you tried going to the sales person and asking for help? Or running it up their chain?

I can see paying for the hardware (maybe) but they should code it as a goodwill gesture.

Bill, you took a left turn there. Do you have any info related to my question?

Tacospike, Thanks, I'll definitely look into the techstream. I'd much rather spend money for tools than pay my dealers labor cost.

You are correct, and I even stated why I did. For the consideration of others.

Well, the 2nd and 3rd para seem related to me. Not as a 'how to' of course, but as a 'did you ask'. If not, you could get lucky.

But Techstream is a great solution for some DIY folks.
