Um, your wheels go in the existing wheel wells. What do you think those humps are for?

I know, but once it hits the wheel well in the bed, it goes all the way to the back instead of just going around the wheel itself like an F-150 or Silverado does. The unused space toward the back could maybe house a small cubby in that space. However, I never looked behind it to see if it has anything there either. I know that the driver's side has the gas filler neck, but I don't know about the passenger's side

Yeah that seems to be a trend with so many manufacturers especially the Japanese. I remember when my family sold nissans the year before the new models came out nearly every car had a "special edition" trim level to clear out some of the higher end parts before the all new models came out.
Ford Chevy and GM just hold all their truck parts over and make "classic" models the following year

"gentlemen, I have heard endless complaints about the missing driver's cubby, so let's give them their fucking cubby. Lets make the bed into nothing but a cubby. I propose we add so many compartments that there's barely enough room left for 2 suitcases, a six pack, and a bag of pizza flavored combos. You cant haul shit, but people will appreciate being organized AF. And lets powdercoat the SR5 wheels a cool gunmetal gray so we can justify the $5000 upcharge for this monstrosity. Brilliant."

The SR5 wheels have already been gunmetal for a bit

So, after all the big talk about all new Tundra, Toyota has pulled a Toyota, not going forward.
