Idk homie the only spark thingy I use when we camp is to start a fire. Then sit back and drink a beer. Maybe smoke signals :notsure:

you’d need to find the device itself in the vehicle, and find its 12v input and run that to a a switchable source to either turn it off or let it run when vehicle is no longer running. I’m guessing that this is a port installed item possibly, so it probably is like a random black box up in the dash or something along those lines

Its not dealer installed option, its factory installed option (it is a part of the premium package). You can check Toyota app, under service history to see which options are dealer installed. Wifi is not listed as a dealer installed option. It doesn't matter who is the 4g service provider or produce the router. There are many parts in the truck that are provided by 3rd party manufacturers, its factory as long as it is installed before it leaves assembly plant.

If you still call this not factory option, than I guess our head units are not factory options since JBL builds them.

OP, I was under the impression it would continue to run as long as the connection is not severed. It turns it of if the connection is severed (there night be a timeout though). At least this is how I remember it based on multimedia user manual.

Edit; I am not sure after reading it again. The section I am talking about is under hints, but It might be talking about range in general.

They really shouldn’t be. They are very broad terms for people who MAKE them broad terms. If you know what I mean.

    People who suffer from pretendinitis.

Only way I see this is to find the wiring diagram and move the hot only when on that powers the router. Wire in a constant power to it. But then it just becomes a parasitic drain on the battery.

So question of the day, did anyone decide if this "WeFee" or "Wiffy" was a factory option or was a sparky spark add on?....

I was thinking about this and it occurred to me camping is similar to (recreational) pickup truck ownership-

Some people are born into it and it’s just natural.

Some people fall into it for whatever reason and can really appreciate it for what it is.

Some people are drawn in by a perceived need or victim to marketing, jump in with both feet buying tons of useless crap (since it’s better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it) and after a short while grow tired and quickly move on to the next bright shining object dangled in front of them.

But for whatever reason, we shouldn’t discourage anyone who wants to try it, because when done correctly it becomes an extension of ones being.

    Cheers.

As much as I hate to resurrect this Luddite dumpster fire thread did you ever figure out how to keep the WiFi on with the truck off?

No, but i made a copy of my key, but without the fob so it won't start the truck. Turn the truck on accessory, lock the doors and stream away. Drops the battery voltage about .5volts in 4 hours out of my d27f optima yellow top. I also bought a small 4 amp battery charger maintainer if i need to stream longer, battery dips low or whatever.

The wifi works great also. Unlimited data and they dont throttle you either. At times the wife and I will have our phones and tablets connected and streaming on the Amazon firestik. All HD streaming.
It has really been the best and most useful internet that we have used traveling. We have been on a 2 month vacation and the wifi has been a god send. Reliable, great data rate and service everywhere.

Most of the parks I camp at have no cell coverage. The Taco must have some special antenna (I'm guessing so that it works in parking garages) and I've never had trouble getting a connection. It's nice to have and is cheap if you need to activate it in an emergency, and sometimes I have to check my email for work.

I believe there are two main components to the system. The first is the modem that controls the car's unlock/lock functions, etc. The second is the router that sends the WIFI signal to your phone. I'm pretty sure both functions are supplied by the head unit, but I know for sure that the second one is. Basically, the head unit needs power for it to work. If you are camping, you could always hook up a trickle charger to the battery or cigarette lighter and leave the car in accessory mode and neural to prevent it from shutting off. I haven't tried this, but it should work.

I think it's a neat option. However, it's slow though, so any insight on getting the data faster would be awesome. Latest speed test results are 4.06 Mbps download and 0.90 Mbps upload, ping was 63 and jitter was 11. I did upgrade for the unlimited data for $20 a month.

That’s not bad latency. 4 Mbps is also not bad for streaming movies unless you are trying for 4K. I get about the same numbers. I think it might be limited to around 4Mbps.

you can also link your unlimited plan to the car for $10 a month.
