I've been thinking about adding a basic Homelink transmitter to my truck. I'm looking at something like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/HOMELINK-T...DE-GARAGE-DOOR-GATE-ALARM-REMOTE/124149102867

I'm thinking about putting it right next to where the factory visor tucks up, where there's a small lip where I'm pretty sure I can stash the electronics for it. Anyone ever tried an install like this? Seems like everyone wants the Homelink mirror, but my mirror is fine and I can't see spending $100+ for a new one when I can wire up one of these for around $30 or so.

Should be a simple install. I think they only have two wires: for power and ground.

Another option, I took my door opener apart, found the contacts that close the opener circuit, attached a couple of wires and ran them to the red push button switch. Zip tied the opener behind the glove box. I've replace the opener battery once in the last five years.

I actually dig that option a lot. Only issue is I'm renting my home right now and I think the Home link option is a more universal solution. Your install is clean though.

I did the same thing with my Miata. Much simpler install. In the Miata's case, I used a momentary switch and stuck the switch and opener behind the fuse box door. So you can't easily see it but it's easy reach.

If you're going to go that route, might I suggest a more appropriate switch:

Buy a universal door remote, then you can re-program the opener in a new place to recognize it. I did this in my truck (link to post here).
