Major Rubbing

hi, i just got a set of mickey thompson classic locks and mickey thompson baja ATZ ( 265/75r16 ) first the guy sent me wheels for a chev so i had too get wheel spacers because they rubbed against my caliper, he told me thay should clear even with the wheel spacers, well he was wrong, the rub real bad!!! i dont know what to do? Can anybody help me with this? i dont really want too lift it, and when i did lift it on the jack 3 inch they were still rubbing!!!! can anyone help me?

 

A lift has noting to do with rubbing your calipers...

easy fix... take them back and tell "the guy" to send you toyota rims

 

the wheels were rubbing aagainst the calipers, but i was just wondering if its because of the wheel spacers that there rubbing?

 

bottom line they rub because they arent the right wheels for your truck...

 

ehh some 16 inch rims do rub on the calipers, and the solution is grinding down the caliper

 

ya, dont really mess around wih grinding the calipers, if i had the right wheels, with the same tire will they fit ?

 

Spacers will increase the clearance between the wheel and the caliper, but will DECREASE the clearance between the tire and the fender well.

Bottom line, those are the wrong rims.

 

What you want, roughly, is a 16x8 rim, 4.5 backspacing, 0 to -6mm offset (note the minus sign; that's negative 6!) 6 on 5.5 bolt pattern, and (I THINK 4.25" hub bore)

Even at those specs, different wheels are cast with different designs and on some of them the spokes just hit the caliper. Nothing to do in that case but pick a different wheel. Some folks will grind down the caliper in this case. I personally wouldn't do that, given how many wheels there are out there that will fit without having to grind them.

 

Not quite. What he wants is a 16" rim with 4.5" backspacing. The offset will depend on the rim width. For an 8 inch wide rim, 4.5" backspacing is 0 offset.

 

Are the wheels rubbing on the outside face of the calipers or on the top edges where it's of the calipers. If it's on the outside face of the calipers you should be able to clear it up with spacers.
Or you could just to get you $ back and get the correct OS/BS.

 

thanks for commenting, i just took the wheel spacers off, grinded the calipers and they are fine now, thanks for all the usefull info
