I too repeatedly smash the report button on people daring to go off topic in an off topic thread. That's way more fulfilling than just skipping over the stuff I don't want to read.

 

You know what I like most about reddit compared to other platforms? There's a fucking downvote button, not just like/upvote/favorite/etc.

But hey, pretty much all social media is just an echo chamber.

 

I have no problems with echo chambers, what I dislike is echo chambers pretending to be an open platform for diverse discussions and then banning people for not conforming.

I frequent reddit, but the only way I can stand it is by staying off the default subs and front page. Stick to the groups you're subbed to, and it's not horrible. They do seem to be stepping up the banning for wrong think though, which just boosts the already existing echo-chamber effect. What really irks me is the "you posted in sub a, so you're banned from every other sub I'm a mod in" shit. Doesn't matter if you are trying to contradict someone in the "wrong" sub, bannned. It's almost like they want to be Digg 2.0

 

Reddit is still awesome for very niche topics such as specific video games or brands. Things like City centric subreddits have devolved into one sided political sock puppetry and vehicle subs are now nothing more than "check out my insta" photo threads.
