    Good Day, All.

I am new to the forum and I am in the creeping crawling phase of my research for a new Tacoma. I have a “grandpa truck” extended cab 2 wheel drive Taco with shell I picked up as a beater. I have a take home vehicle from work that I spend most of my time in. This will be my first 4x4. I recently purchased one for my son for a college graduation present.

I will keep this truck for a long time. I typically drive a truck 12-15 years before moving on.

I am looking to use this as a camping truck with a camper topper (shell) and a roof top tent. I will not be going to the deepest parts of Africa for sure. My wife and I will camp in dispersed camping spot most often so by definition this would be an “overlander”.

I do not want to go crazy with aftermarket lifts and such, leaving me looking for the most capable truck I can get. I am currently trying to determine the difference in the 4x4 Off Road and the TRD Pro. I am not sure I can justify the Pro’s sticker price.

Thanks for taking the time to read this post
