I never really thought about the Sport. I don't really know why really. I had an SR5 and was just comparing the SR5 to the OR.

Side note, go here and download the brochure -- there is a page in there with the Sport and OR next to each other. It will help build the anticipation. I guess I am old school because I like to actually have the brochure in my hand -- and read it cover to cover. :)

I went Sport because I hated the soft suspension of the OR. Plus I’m adding a LOKKA mechanical locker for $300 that is better than the E locker that comes on the OR.

Completely agree. I will say this about crawl control is that if you have no experience off roading it could help. Also if you see an earlier post, your kid can drive, lol.

The conventional wisdom is the OR is a better value and more useful. I went OR. I don't like the fact that the hood scoop is "fake" and just for show.

Some really good points here. I'm going to try and add a little.

First, take a second and plan out the use, then the build to accomplish that use. Just follow the path with me for a second.

What do you plan to us it for, does the build include new suspension, selectable lockers, gearing. All that came into play for me.

    In my humble opinion.

The pro---- stays as is. No need to pay top dollar just to replace the entire suspension and add selectable lockers. This is the cheapest long term option if it stays stock. We can argue that if you like.

    Best middle ground.
The OR ---- Best if your ok with the rear locker, nice to have there when needed.
Adding a lift, suspension, wheel & tire package, works out cheaper than doing the same lift, wheel & tire package on the Pro, mainly because the price of the pro.

    Best for me
    My choice Sport 4x4 ----
I could careless about the hood scope, the paint, the fender flares. All of that is minor and can get replaced at any time. I'm focused on items that improve capability. I want selectable lockers front and rear, so I'm not going to pay the OR or Pro price just to remove and replace everything including the entire suspension. Was an easy choice for me, as the sport 4x4 works out the cheapest and I get exactly what I want.

Be honest with yourself, each one has its pros & cons. What works out the best for you while staying within your budget!

I did not test drive the OR or the PRO. I can tell you the stock sport 4x4 suspension was way more loose than I thought it would be. Every single review on the sport says it's stiff. It was not stiff at all. I come from building solid axle XJs usually with the long arms. Nothing about the stock suspension was stiff.

    Hope that makes sense.

Sport with MT gets the same 8.5" rear end much like Pro and OR.

I was also down to a OR vs SR5. Nearly identical LB trucks with the exception that the OR had larger infotainment screen; BSM, backup alert, and push button start along with a couple dealer add-ons. I went OR because of the softer ride and because I think the resale will be better in the end. The feature gap has closed between SR5 and OR in 2020 so I would take a hard, hard look at the SR5.

I'm glad to see the discussion about the crawl control and MTS. I was debating getting the advanced tech package for all the goodies, but now it looks like I'll just save some of my money if it's all a gimmick...:spending:

Pretty much the same here as well.....wanted a manual tranny and the access cab. Sport was the way for me to go, and I have not been disappointed.

Glad you are liking your truck and that was the best choice for you! But you said you were not going to pay OR or Pro prices, the Sport and OR have the exact same MSRP if configured the same so there is no price advantage between the 2 models.

The OR with the Eibach kit is the right move. You just have to find a scooped hood which is much harder than you would expect.

You would be very surprised how many members would love to swap their OR hood with cash to a sport hood.

I agree 100%. And all good points by you -- with sound reasoning.

The only reason I went with the OR over the SR5 (which would have been more than capable for my needs) was that the SR5s were not as available and I found an OR that was not that much more and the dealer gave me a good price. Sometimes it is about what you can find as opposed to what you want on paper. But had they both been readily available I would have definitely purchased the SR5, upgraded the shocks and tires and I would have been good to go for just about any off road / rugged driving that I might do.

I'd hardly call it a gimmick, but I don't think it works for me as well as it does Toyota in its press videos. Where CC shines is downhill, or in slippery conditions. The ability to individually brake tires left to right and front to back is amazing. You can make much tighter turns with CC as opposed to just 4H or 4L. It works very well when used as a descent control since it is much slower than just the transfer case gearing itself.

It's also not part of any package other than the Off Road model, my bare bones 32k OR has it, but none of the other P&T stuff.

What about the manual transmission? The sport is great 4x4 vehicle that can do more off road than most people need. It has wheels and 4 wheel drive....nuff said. Ill take my MT Sport all day over any other AT. If i could get it with manual windows id do that too!
