Just starting my research and skimmed the 141 page post on lighting, boy is it going to take me a long time to get up to speed.

I have a 2016 DC OR MT heading my way next week. My boys are 5 and 2.5 so I'm planning this to be their truck once they start learning to drive. Really wanted MT so they are at least forced to pay a little bit of attention to the driving process instead of their phones.

Anyone have recommendations on how best to begin my journey of drinking from this ocean of knowledge? I'm honestly a bit intimidated. Or maybe point me towards a starter thread to ease me into things? I haven't yet decided how much I want to tinker, but at some point I think I'll be unable to resist doing some things. In my younger days I spent a lot of time with car stereos, which seemed to get stolen far more than I expected them to.

Here's my vehicle purchase history in case it helps anyone understand my prior experience.

1989? F150 regular cab MT 4x4 longbed -- first vehicle purchased, bought it used my senior year in college, grossly overpaid, I've been scared of used vehicles ever since, also got broken into and my first stereo taken.
1997 F150 supercab MT 4x4 -- first new vehicle purchased, this was my dream truck at the time, spend hundreds of hours on the stereo, had it broken into while living in San Francisco and sold it as I was heartbroken and it was definitely not the right vehicle for SF
2000 Tacoma xtracab MT 4x4 OR -- In retrospect I miss this truck a lot, sold it for near what I paid 2 years later to a woman who wanted it more than I did b/c she was actually going to use it on trail.
2002 Tundra regular cab AT 4x4 -- Kept this for almost 10 years, what a great truck, tons of home improvement projects, tons of trips for races, slept in the back many nights. Also had a honda motorcycle at this time, good combo. Sold it to my good friend once his kids were old and moved out, he put a shell on it and uses it to take dogs to the snow, go camping, have fun, the kind of stuff a 10 year old truck needs to be doing vs sitting around.

2006 Toyota corolla AT -- bought this so I could pretend to be more social / practical rather than driving a truck or motorcycle around at night, so cheap and reliable and completely uninspiring
2013 Toyota prius AT -- traded the corolla for this guy, not really sure why, it has 41k miles on it 7 years later, my whopping 9 mile commute doesn't add up and we use the minivan on weekends and for family trips so we can bring the dog and bikes and gear.

and then my incoming 2016 DC 4x4 OR MT, spent the last 3 years figuring out which truck I wanted, priced out 2020's and test drove a few, even got the wife to drive a few. Trying to figure out if I keep the prius or sell it dirt cheap to my sister to upgrade her 2006.

This will be my 2nd used vehicle so I'm a bit nervous but hopeful, bought it from a reputable dealer but they are in GA and I'm in CA so I haven't seen it in person yet. My wife's vote was for a DCLB but with OR and 4x4 those go 40k + tax which is just a lot more than I think I want to spend on a truck, plus we have a pretty short driveway, but mostly I really wanted MT.

If you park in a garage upgrade the stereo. Factory sucks. If you don't park in a garage don't upgrade it. Theives are worse than sucky sounding toons.

    Enjoy it. Welcome aboard.
