Anything welding

For real. Though now that I have a plasma cutter (arriving tomorrow) I’d be much more apt to build one for someone else.

 

man. I can’t tell you how many times I told my wife I need a plasma cutter during this process. Would have gone soooooooo much faster.

What is the reasoning behind the angled license plate? Is it legal to do that?

 

My guess is so it doesn’t hang off the bottom of the bumper since the bumper is only 4” tall. I had the same issue but I just moved it to my tailgate.

You're doing exactly what I'm going to do, in that order. I'm seriously thinking of using 16ga. I've build many BBQ grills out of 16 and its strong as hell when fab'd like that bumper. I'll reinforce it as I go along but I need to save some weight.

Yea im going to start practicing on it this weekend i hope. Took some welding classes and now i have some scrap metal i got at the scrap yard to work on and hone in my skills before I start on the truck.

 

I realized I was almost out of cutting discs half way through a job this morning. Gotta make every little bit count. I managed to finish up without running out.

If you hold a piece of brass on the back side (if you can get to it) you can just weld continuously and fill the hole. The brass gets hot fast though. I did this to fill the holes on a 1st gen 4runner.

Thanks! Someone else had the suggestion to take a copper tube and squeeze one end in the vice. Then you can use it like a handle and hold it up behind what you're welding. Next time though!

Truck got finished up yesterday.

 

They were right, copper is what you want. Sorry, it’s been a long time since I’ve done any real metal work and forgot what material I used.
