I can't speak about Oregon but I'm sure they can in New Jersey. They are considered professional drivers and to my knowledge the truck stops are self service in the truck lanes. Places like Wawa usually separated the diesel to a separate and more grimey island. I've been able to self fill at those myself. I think the idea is most diesel customers are commercial vehicles and not average Joe dirt consumer that's incapable of not burning the joint down.

I actually think other than some weird thing in those states laws and fire codes that created those low skill jobs to begin with is the main reason those laws are not repealed. It gives highschool dropouts more employment opportunities.

My older cousin had a repair shop that sold gas in NJ. they have sold years ago. He said it was actually a pain. He would have rather had self service and pay at the pump. Every day the guy they hired would not show to pump gas they had to stop working on cars to do it. It was not a job they could keep anyone reliable in.

This rule has been in effect for a few weeks, but I have yet to see anybody pumping their own. The Capital comes out with new rules on the Corona every day that a lot of people don't pay any attention to. The rules for a stage one opening of businesses reads like War and Peace.

Oregon rule allowing self-service gas extended to May 9

SALEM, Ore. (KTVZ) -- The Office of the State Fire Marshal is extending a temporary rule change that allows Oregon gas stations to provide self-service on a voluntary basis, in order to address shortages of workers experienced by gas retailers statewide.

The rules change was first announced on March 28 and then extended on April 11 to April 25. On Friday, State Fire Marshal Jim Walker extended the deadline another two weeks, through May 9.

“We want to thank Oregonians and Oregon businesses for being flexible during these challenging times,” said Walker. “As we continue to monitor this ongoing situation, we feel it is best to extend this option for an additional two weeks.”

The extension of the change will still allow station attendants to help customers while avoiding face-to-face and hand-to-hand contact. It also continues to ensure physical distancing measures are in place. Attendants will continue to sanitize station equipment and fuel nozzles and assist customers with their refueling as needed.

Self-service is not mandatory. This option allows some fueling stations to maintain their operations with fewer workers and lets Oregonians, particularly essential workers who must travel, still commute without the uncertainty of not being able to find open gas stations.

Unattended self-service is permitted when a gas station owner exhausts all staffing options. Stations that do not have an attendant on duty are still required to post safety signs for physical distancing and instructions showing customers how to operate a fuel pump correctly.

I wonder if I'll make it long enough to look back at the days when people had jobs. I mean seriously a machine seems like it would make a better doctor than a human.

That might work but could be harsh at first.

My guess 20 years most jobs will seem quaint.

    There’s one black one...

The red ‘04 belongs to my friend whose house it is, and the black 2019 belongs to the friend’s friend.

SS is paid with Worker's money, the feds have been taping the til for years!!, if the fund was not touched there would be A LOT MORE MONEY in the fund. SS should NEVER be touched, because it is funded by working people, not taxes.
