Is it possible to damage the suspension through overloading? I recently used my ‘17 OR to haul a couple loads of gravel approximately 50 miles. I was definitely exceeding the weight limits and the truck was pretty bagged.

I’ve now noticed it’s not handling bumps as well and feel I’ve wrecked the shocks and leaf springs. Is that likely what happened? I haven’t driven it much since, and I am not currently home, but am looking to get parts to fix it when I return. If I did wreck anything, is it likely shocks and springs or one or the other? Thinking about doing a lift at some point and this might expedite it, but plan was to do an AAL which would mean I would need good springs. TIA

    Possible, yes. Likely? Idk
I’d look at your shocks to see if they’re leaking oil

How much did the load weigh? Was the truck riding on the bump-stops? You may have blown the shocks.

Like AKGSD, said I would inspect the shocks to see if they’re leaking.

    **mod edit

I had about that much and did two trips like that. Maybe it’s in my head but it seemed to feel different afterwards. Maybe I just want a good reason to upgrade...

Yes everything is ruined..... you need a full king suspension now to correct and prevent any more damage :anonymous:

I’ve put 1600lbs of stone in the bed of mine for my driveway.
    No issues afterwards.

i did have upgraded leafs and shocks when I did it, and I drove through easy and smooth streets.

If it rides on the bump stops with weight you may bend the axle.

A 140.00 delivery charge doesn’t seem so bad after the cost of what you may have to fix.

Geez, i had 21 60 lb bags of gravel mix concrete plus towing a cement mixer with my tacoma when it was still under 500 miles on the odo. Now got over 2k miles. Doesn't seem any worse for wear. In fact i think its running the best its been so far.
